Hi Phil,
This is a great start. I really like your vision for day one. I'm
CCing Christine Egger on this email, who had previously suggested an
agenda for Day 1 and Day 2, based on a similar zoomed out (day 1) /
zoomed in (day 2) approach to the workshop.
I'm also CCing the Social Actions google group. There are many smart
people on that list who have been instrumental in helping us think
through issues related to the value of an open micro-philanthropic
space. Many of the people on the list cannot attend the workshop due to
geography or schedules, but I think they will have plenty to add as we
formulate the important questions for the workshop. Beverley,
Christine, Tom, and Michelle (who are attending the workshop) are
already on the list.
At your convenience, can you join the Social Actions google group. We
can use that forum to continue to formulate the agenda, through the
threaded discussion and the google docs functionality.
All the best,
Peter

Emphasis is on what can be done with x resources that will have a reasonably unambiguous likelihood of having a positive effect. MP runs against the concept that problems can only be addressed if every interdependent aspect is addressed by one single effort – instead, MP finds ways to aggregate numerous small actions to address inter-related aspects of problems, accepting limited successes as adequate while holding to greater transformation as also realistic when backed by many.

The donor has a vision for the contribution, and has some ownership towards the outcome, and is not simply delegating this to an org. the MP donor may also be doing 100% of the project mgmt of the contribution, either with or without supporting tools.

Maybe this is a useful map to show how MP is a natural extension of individual needs into social opportunities.)

You're brilliant.
I didn't realize you're in the Gentle Actions book. That's too cool.
Will respond with comments this weekend. I hope others (not to
externalize your relation to me) will respond as well.
All the best,
Peter

I have spent the last 48 hours recharging my mortal battery. Montreal
in springtime is good for that. Between the greasy spoon breakfasts
with friends, Portuguese roasted chickens, beer in the park, and
sleeping 12 hours per night, I have made a quick recovery from the
travel to DC last week.
I'm now ready to insert myself back into the conversation. Phil,
Christine, Beverley: thank you for moving along the agenda / Net2 pitch
conversation this past week.
Thank you everyone for continuing to be part of the Social Actions team.
I am convinced that we're quickly becoming the epi-center of quality
thinking about p2p and MP. Personally, my thinking about
micro-philanthropy and p2p social change is 100x more sophisticated than
where it was six months ago.
As this ball keeps rolling, I anticipate we will attract even more
voices to the mix.
Below is a summary of important dates in the next few weeks.
All the best,
Peter
***Thursday, May 8***
Last Thursday, Heather Cronk and I met up in Washington DC. She has
taken a full-time job with the New Organizing Institute, in addition to
wearing a few other social change hats. (Read: she's a very busy
woman). Heather is still totally on board with the direction that
Social Actions has taken, and had a number of ideas for people we should
be in touch with. She's expecting nothing less than a 1st place finish
for Social Actions at NetSquared at the end of the month. Thank you
Heather!
***Thursday, May 15***
Julius (Helpalot) and I are going to meet-up in Amsterdam for the day.
I'm looking forward to meeting Julius face-to-face. He has a ton of
great ideas that can help us shape the micro-philanthropy workshop and
the pitch at Net2.
***Monday, May 19 - Thursday, May 22***
Christine and I will be in Stockholm for Stockholm Challenge Week. This
is an opportunity for Christine and I to meet with a 120+ social change
projects that focus on international development. We'll keep our eyes
peeled for little known social action platforms that may be interested
in participating in the Social Actions mashup. There's a chance Social
Actions will win the Stockholm Challenge, taking home 5,000 Euros to
help build out the open API and initial mashups. We're listed in the
economic category.
***Friday, May 23***
Our 2nd Social Actions techie conference call. We'll take stock of the
progress made toward developing and implementing a micro-format for
micro-philanthropy. Prior to this meeting, we want to have accomplished
the following:
- Implement the basic 'span' tags for identifying semantic data in fields
- Identify the points of commonality among the data listed by platforms
- Gain a better understanding of how hListing could be tailored for
micro-philanthropy campaigns.
***Monday, May 26***
Our 3rd Social Actions conference call. We actually have two
conversations scheduled for May 26.
2:00pm - 3:00pm EDT -- Beverley will present PincGiving
3:30pm - 4:30pm EDT -- Report from Stockholm Challenge / final Prep
Meeting for the NetSquared Mashup Challenge
***Tuesday May 27 - Wednesday May 28***
Peter, Christine, Phil Klein, and Cameron (Wednesday) will attend the
NetSquared Mashup Challenge. On Wednesday, from 11:20 PDT to 12:20 PDT,
Social Actions will make its formal pitch for the Net2 Challenge. We
are presenting along side "Your Mapper" and the "Rosetta Project."
A full agenda can be found here:

**Thursday, May 29 - Friday, May 30**
Peter, Christine, Phil Klein, Tom Munnecke, Beverley, Peter Brock, and a
few others will convene at the Ben Lomond Quaker Center for a two-day
workshop about micro-philanthropy. Everyone on this list is more than
welcome to join us.
More information here:
http://blog.socialactions.com/events/event/show?id=2062983:Event:744
Please RSVP as soon as you know if you can join us. I'll publish a full
list of confirmed participants early this week.
***
So that's what we have coming in the next three weeks.
I'm looking forward to the ride!
All the best,
Peter
PS -- In case it is of interest to anyone, I will be presenting Social
Actions and our theories about micro-philanthropy in French to a group
of Montreal activists this Tuesday at a pizzaria dedicated to the Tibet
Freedom movement.
