A line all the way around the block for the iPhone at the Pasadena
California Apple Store. The line started early yesterday. When I visited the
line this morning a few were asleep in their sleeping bags.

Leo Laporte has been covering the launch since Thursday afternoon on
twitlive.tv and was going to keep going until the stores open in
Hawaii at 11 a.m. Pacific Time, but he just said that since no one has
called in from Hawaii, he's thinking of wrapping it up sooner. Some
people were using their laptops with EVDO cards to send video of the
people waiting in line at various locations.

iTunes activation servers are down and some people have reported that
they were sold unactivated phones and told to go activate them at
home.

I don't have an iPhone, but do have a iPod Touch that I want to buy
the new firmware for, but can't do that until the servers are back up.
Some people who tried updating their original iPhones now are not able
to use them until the servers come back up.

Stan!

Does the new firmware for the iTouch allow for the use of 3rd party software? Adobe Reader with DRM is my interest for this hardware as a text/technical book reader...

http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/appstore.html shows what apps are
available. There are writeups about some of them at tuaw.com (and
probably at other sites I haven't checked). Some of the apps are free.

http://gizmodo.com/5023971/iphone-os-20-unlocked-yes says that there
is already a jailbreak for the new firmware, so that would open it up
to developers not approved by Apple.

Yeah, it's too bad they'll stop selling them after today, huh?!

Nah, I was commenting on people who'll line up to get something that's
in large supply.

ROFL!

He was making a joke about all the people that have to get them today.
Like they won't be sold after today.

Hehe.

I thought it was about how the upgrade on the OS will be free in a week...

Remember the first iPhone? (wink)

BTW, thanks for the heads-up on the OS upgrade for the iPod Touch; I only
boot into Windows every couple of weeks or so.
