ISO "Annie on my mind"

"Annie on my mind" My library has it but it is missing. None of the
bookstores have it here. Used would be fine. Also any recomendations of
other books about relationships between teen girls would be appreciated. I
enjoy reading this group and have met some good people to talk to here.

most towns have a women's bookstore. if you can find one, you will find many
books on this topic. perhaps you can find the book "places for women" in a
mainstream bookstore and possibly find such a bookstore. you will
probably not find books like "annie" at a public library. these books always
seem to get "lost" there.

bookstores in washington, dc, which carry this title. Lambda Rising is
one and I'm sure they do mail order. (202) 462 6969 should be the
number. They may or may not have an 800 number for mail orders. I'll

you can also try a borders book shop if there's one in your area. some
other good books are:
deliver us from evie -- m.e. kerr
the friends -- rosa guy
a spoof on nancy drew, something like nancy clue and the not so nice
nurse, i can't remember the author's name
you might also want to check out some classics, such as the ann bannon
books (beebo brinkier, etc), audre lorde's zami, orlando (which is
actually a love letter from virginia woolf to vita sackville-west), and
if you like that one, portrait of a marriage, by harold nicholson,
describes their relationship.

THE CASE OF THE NOT-SO-NICE NURSE by Mabel Maney
Also, more on the books below: Although i enjoyed reading the Ann
Bannon books...they are great 50s soap operas...the beebo brinker
books made me sad...she's so self-destructive.
I read Orlando for a college lit class, I never would have finished
it otherwise. It was great to talk about it in connection to
Portrait of a Marriage, but it's hard to find the lesbian content.
the number one novel I'd reccomend is SISTER SAFETY-PIN by
Laurie Sprecher. It's hilarious, you care about the heroines,
and even i (the original folk-head) loved the punk music stuff.

this is true, but what i liked about the beebo books is their subversion
-- ann bannon wrote those books before stonewall and often had to be
content with suggestion rather than overt description/statement.
although i agree that the books are ultimately depressing (and hesitated
recommending them), there is a bravery in the stories that i appreciated.
(of course, i'm also using the books for a paper i'm working on about
queer themes and representation in young adult genre literature...)

Alex, if you want a bibliography of young adult literature (fiction and
nonfiction) with glb themes and characters, e-mail me and I can send you a
copy of the one I put together. I haven't tried attaching files to my e-mail
