i think you're thinking of "Go Fish".
i thought that "go fish" was okay...BAD BAD BAD acting...some stupid
artsy stuff thrown in for NO reason. but, the plot was really good. dead
on. i can really relate w/ max. :) looking for "hiphop barbie" and being
a little immature shit.
okay, as long as i'm giving *MY* $0.25 on the films...
i hated "Claire of the Moon". it was your typical dyke drama, angstfest.
bad plot. over done acting...the works. but i found it fun for a laugh
myself.
i'm renting "The Incredibly True...blahblah" sometime this week. =b
oh, no one mentioned "The Hunger". it's not exactly a dyke film. kinda a
nice little stylized 80s new wave film about a vampires. david bowie's in
it.

I recently saw the movie _Bed of Roses_ and about halfway through, the
thought occurred to me that it would be a great plot to have two women in
the leading roles. And THEN I thought tat maybe there are other movies
out there like that. Has anyone else thought about this? Am I off in my
own little world over here?

i'm not sure if i'd reccommend it entirely. i guess it's one of those
films you watch once just to say that you've seen it. it has its moments.

I loved The Hunger--but I'm a very big Bowie fan and I've long had the

and "Incredibly True Adventures of 2 Girls in Love"...other ones i'd
recommend are "the Hunger" and, since no one's mentioned it,
"liquid Sky" -an incredibly bizarre erotic sci fi movie, the main
character is both a man and a woman (same actor) who kills people
shesleeps with...really good. cult classic.
i dont know WHAT you'd call it, but Siesta hasa really hot kiss
between Ellen Barkin and Jodie Foster...sam goes for Poison

there's the obvious two no one's mentioned-Boys on the Side, and Fried Green
Tomatoes...oh, and The Color Purple.
One more that I highly highly recommend-Chantilly Lace. It's about
6 women friends, two of which are together (Ally Sheedy and Martha
PLiPlimpton)....worht seeing by EVERYONE, for ANY reason...

Two thumbs up for "When Night is Falling..." However, I had my movie
experienced totally nixed by some str8 dude sitting next to me and my
lover, breathing hard during the love scene.. It put me off for DAYZ...
My lover was totally in love with "Petra." Mentioning her name still gets
a smile.. Any idea when "When Night.." will be out on video??
"Two girls" was cute..but a lil' painful.. I've always had nightmares of
my mother finding out like Evie's did.. Gawd! *shudder*

I didn't care much for _I've Heard the Mermaids Singing_; I much preferred
_When Night is Falling_. I mean, the former was all right, but there
really wasn't all that much to it. It's hard to explain. I just found
it...boring. _WNiF_, on the other hand, was very rich and full of
meaning. It was a lot prettier film, too, in terms of cinematography.

I thought the sex scenes were a yawn, too (talk about bad acting!) The
only part I liked was the dance--the women actually looked like they were
having a good time. All of a sudden they were relaxed and smiling and
enjoying themselves. If only they could have loosened up earlier (but
then , with that dialog, it probably still would have been a bad movie).

While i'm here, i might as well throw out my opinion about "Two Girls...".
I absolutely loved it. i saw it three times in one week and
still want to see it again. What a shame there was no Randi in *my* high
school. I might have figured things out long ago.

"Antonia's Line" is out in the art theaters right now and it's the story of
four generations of women in a Dutch family. The daughter of Antonia turns
out to find her true love in a woman. It's not a big deal in the film -- just
accepted by the family as are all of the others they take in.
So the lesbian content isn't huge, but it's there in a big way. But for other
reasons, the movie is definitely worth seeing. All four of us (dykes) cried
when we saw it the other night, all for different reasons. Warning -- there
is a rape scene. But through the whole film, the power of these women prevail.

The *real* problem with BAR GIRLS is that the writing and acting were both
atrociously bad. I've seen more talent from dead people. (I especially
wanted to strangle the lead woman, the cartoonist. Every time someone else
was talking to her, she had to put on her "listening" face.)

Really? Not in my community. I thought _Bar Girls_ had a few funny
moments but was for the most part poorly written and acted. I rather
enjoyed seeing badly behaved lesbians for a change, tho' the jealousy
stuff was incredibly dreary.

This topic has been debated among my friends for months, and if the crap
we keep getting from the Hollywood machine doesn't get better soon, the
debate will no doubt continue.
My biggest beef with lesbian films is that they are just that. Lesbian
films. What I want to see are films about women. Interesting, sexy,
intelligent women, who *happen* to be lesbians. Or insipid, dowdy, stupid
women, who *happen* to be lesbians. It really doesn't matter, so long as
the story is engaging, and the film is well crafted.
Film technique aside, I think the reason that most lesbians find these
films disappointing is that most of us are expecting to see *the* lesbian
experience defined in film, and what we get is *a* lesbian experience
defined in film.

I think the hair thing had to do with some ridiculous point the director
was trying to make. ie: Short hair makes women masculine, masculine women
are ugly, or worse, "see these pretty girls? They are lesbians and they
look JUST LIKE STRAIGHT PEOPLE! See? They are not so threatening. Are
they? Am I right? Do you get it?"

What movie are you talking about? I've seen "Go Fish", "Sister, My
Sister", "The Incredible True Story Of Two Girls In Love".... and quite a
few other lesbian movies (or with definite lesbian "overtones") at
Blockbuster in College Station, Texas.
I was quite surprised to find a relatively open-minded Blockbuster in
TEXAS ;) Refreshing.

because lately all the Blockbusters in San Antonio stock virtually
every independantly made queer movie i've tried to find....
and you can tell where the queers in SA live (78212) by which stores
are always rented out of queer flicks....:)

another tucsonan; could it be true? at least we can go check out the more
obscure lesbian flicks at the u of a and all of the big productions make it to
a theater here. i go see all of the lesbian movies, and if i like them i'll go
see it several times at the theater (bargain matinee). it's way more fun to
watch them in a theater full of lesbians anyway! i taped the movie "oranges
are not the only fruit" (for my own personal viewing, of course) off a cable
station. it's a serious coming of age movie from england and i liked it a lot.
watch your cable guides.
