To all fat slobs:
I read R. Marie Griffith's "The Gospel of Born-Again Bodies" (The
Chronicle Review, January 21) with great interest, but I was largely
unconvinced by her arguments that physical fitness has become a notable
priority among contemporary Christians. My problem arises because I
attend a Christian church, I know many others who do also, and I have eyes.
While I'm not prepared to say that current Christians exhibit greater
levels of obesity than the general population (whose levels are
reportedly at all-time highs), they certainly do not seem to exhibit
lower ones. It has long struck me as perverse that so many sermons rail
against the deadly sins of lust and hatred, but when was the last time
you were on the receiving end of a detailed admonition against the
deadly sin of gluttony? The next one I hear will be the first one I've
ever heard.

I am familiar with them. They were authored by the Catholic church to
maintain control of the people and keep them in ignorance.

Not in the bible anywhere and to be given the attention they deserve -
which is then same attention this poster deserves.

We all know the OP is intelligence-challenged. Let's let it go at
that.

So why do you do it?

Nowhere have you quoted anything to do with fatness.

You should tell that to some of the trolls here, especially
the lust and anger part. And pride so excessive that they think they
know best how others should live their lives.

"Appropriate" does not mean insufficient quantities, either.

By the way, Isaiah 55:2

So do you. Show me where the 7 Deadly sins are listed in their King
James Bible. That is the bible used by most PROTESTANTS.

OK. So people who are a glutton for punishment would really love that
one. So One puts a knife to their throat. Are there instructions on
what to do with it and is this the King James Bible?

Please don't give me a bible with a Catholic slant. It is there to
suit the church and not the God it is supposed to represent.

So you are one of those evangelical fools that wait for Jesus to save
them from situation they put themselves? The same idiots that the KKK
embraces with abandon? The idiots who freely lynched people of color
because they believed them to be inferior?

Unlike the Mormons, who got over their racist BS in the last century,
you carry yours in the present as a badge of honor?

Who can find justification to call Jim Dutton a Christian even though
he has an unhealthy attraction to piggies?

The last statement was an assumption but since Mikey the ex-lawyer
probably wrote this it could be wishful thinking.

Cowards hide, right Mikey? Haven't you ever had an original thought

In biblical times, the chosen people were required to be very mobile.
Getting to the Holy Land at all meant being able to walk 30-40 miles a
day. Those who could not keep up were by definition unworthy to enter
into the Land of Promise. Obese persons were thus automatically under
the ban. So, of course fatness/gluttony was labeled a Mortal Sin by
the early church fathers. It was a no-brainer.

There is NO classification written within the bible that outlines the
so-called seven deadly sins. I defy you to quote a definitive list of
definitions within the biblical text describing such.

The crap you have quoted is interpretation and the meaning can applied
to almost any desire or want in human nature. You know this to be
true, so stop your faux religious bullshit.

Cite this revelation please? Provide the backing for such a ridiculous
statement. The only individuals traveling the holy land were for the
most part pilgrims, traders and those with business in the region.
Furthermore in true biblical times societies were either nomadic or
agrarian, either way the physical activity required to live in these
societies and the types of foods eaten precluded people from becoming
fat. Being fat was a sign of being in the upper class because it
showed that you had leisure time on your hands supported by wealth. So
by your pulled out of your ass way of thinking, many in the upper
classes would not be considered unworthy or sinners even though it was
the upper portions of society that kept and preserved most of the
ancient biblical texts.

BTW, the so-called church fathers (whatever they are) didn’t even
exist in biblical times nor did the Christian church. So anything they
interpreted from biblical times was and usually not given to the total
truth of how people in the holy land actually existed or lived their
lives.

You obviously didn’t think your trolling statement through as usual.

And that is a no brainer.

Thanks for perpetuating my opinion. I have no respect for bible
thumpers. Most of them are the biggest hypocrites on the planet. They
give lots of lip service to Christian doctrine but do not actually
practice it.

I stand by what I said, brain stem.

Come out in the open and quite hiding, coward.

No, I was taught about Jesus at my mother's knee. She taught me the
difference between lip service and actually serving the Lord.

"By their deeds ye shall know them."

If Mormons are so terrible, why are they first in line to set up
relief centers for disasters? Why do they provide cleaning kits for
flood victims?

You should be so terrible.

The Mormons are probably the least fat-friendly religious sect on the
planet, which is why Utah is one of the leanest states. How do you
reconcile that?

From http://lds.families.com/blog/provident-living1 :

"Sadly, there are many young men and women denied the opportunity to
serve a full-time mission because of obesity. We have heard over and
over and over that our nation is suffering from an epidemic of obesity."

"With suggestions on maintaining a healthy lifestyle such as: family
physical activities, nutritious and careful food planning, sleep
suggestions and cutting back on t.v., video and computer games, the
site is a wonderful guideline for those struggling to turn the tide of
obesity."

Is the LDS Church spreading, as you call it, "alarmist propaganda"?
Are they, as you call them, "idiots" for denying obese people the
opportunity to serve on missions?

Stephen Covey emphasizes physical fitness and weight control in his
excellent series of "Seven Habits" books. LV should read them instead of
practicing the Seven Sins.

The people are, even if the alarmism is not officially sanctioned by
the church.

You fucking moron; asking for a proper citation is a common request.
Even moronic trolls like you sometimes have enough brains to request
some backing research for unsubstantiated statements.

Leave it to a total fucktard to take issue with something as
rudimentary as asking for proof of an argument point.

All well educated people are familiar with the seven "deadly sins"
enumerated by the Medieval Catholic Church. One of which was gluttony.
Asking for a cite is just an admission of having large lacunae in your
background knowledge.

Well-educated people also know that "gluttony" and "eating a
lot" are not the same thing.

Trolls set the bar pretty low in this regard. That's not
Ragnar's fault.

That doesn't make him wrong. Will we also see you chiding

Keep covering for you obvious lack of backing info. A halfway
intelligent person knows that the biblical seven sins listed in the
book of proverbs are very different from the traditional 7 sins
developed in the 4th and 6th centuries. So you assertion regarding
obesity and life in biblical times was baseless at best. While obesity
may have been rare back then it certainly was due to some religious
moral code.

Robin, the individual know as "Richard Sims" is obviously attempting
to deflect the fact that trolls are notorious for making idiotic
statements with no quantifiable backing. Taking issue with my usage of
derogatory name calling that was merely used as emphasis for the
argument point shows the typical willingness to use diversion as a
tactic in place of defending an indefensible point. It’s a simple
matter of their need for attention. In their pursuit of it, they
simply produce crap instead of rational argument.

But you really can’t blame faux intellectuals like Richard. To them
concepts such as rationality and logic are only partially grasped and
are far too hard to apply when they are challenged by someone with a
rational and logical opposing point of view.

More diversion noted. Next time try addressing the actual arguement.
You cry of foul language is weak as is your attempt at trolling.

Whine much??? Dude no need to wave you vagina in everyone’s face over
this.

It is absolutely hilarious that you have conveniently ignored the fact
that the argument stems from Ragnar’s legitimate request for proof of
a trolls baseless claim. Instead you chose to look like a whiny, tool
and boil your argument down to nothing more than …..Waaaaaaaa, Ragnar
didn’t use his words…….Waaaaaaaaa, Ragnar used harsh language to
illustrate his point.

You have got to be joking if you think anyone other than the usual
“fucking moron” trolls will put any credence into your ridiculous
pussified diatribe. Now get your head out of your ass and try to
follow along with the rest of the adults.
