Hi cupcakes and fruitgums,

Due to popular demand I've decided to add another venue to my
Trans-Solar System tour.

April 5th sees my triumphant arrival at Philadelphia Airport (April 6th
sees me still trying to find my way out of Arrivals).

For those who've already met me, sorry. For those who haven't, who said
life was fair.

Cheezits is apparently trying to get a boink going but, not being very
mechanical, is having trouble spongeing out the tamping womple.

Watch this space for further details (I watched it for 4 days and I can
still pick up a mug of coffee with my left ear).

Take care all.

No, no, that's only in the New York airports. Philadelphia is smooth
sailing.

And I'm not saying anything about Atlanta where immigration only wanted
to know if the girls in Amsterdam were pretty.

Yes! Second night seder in Philly! All of the matzo will be covered with
chocolate.

Never mind that. I'll bring one from Zabar's.

No good, my little bucket of bolts. IIRC they use a right-hand thread in
Zabar's. We need a left-hand, double-helix, with two full somersaults

Cheezits tried to get her head together, among other things, finally gave
up and decided to call it a boink. Sorry if it's kind of short notice, but
you know how it is with these foreigners.

When: 04/16 - 04/18

Yes! Please forgive my negligence. Email me at chee...@netzero.net for
details. There are lots and lots (well, a fair number anyway) of things to
see and do around here, including a nearby quilt supply shop for those who
are so inclined. Or we can just hang out here and harass Loretta. I have
some lovely chocolate truffles...

Potent indeed. I'm several cross stitch projects behind where I wanted
to be right now, but I've finished 5 scarves and 2 sweaters since
January 1 and have all but the button band done on a third sweater and
two more scarves in progress. And it's all your fault.

At the last sono (3 weeks ago), one was 3lb 12 oz and the other
3lb 6oz. Probably added at least another pound each since then,
if my weight gain is any indication. Twin A, who was head down
and had dropped into postion, decided sometime about four weeks
ago to turn around and be breech like her sister; so now I get
heads butting my ribs and feet kicking everywhere. It looks as if
I definitely will have to have a C-section -- originally it was
normal deliver for the first twin, attempt to turn the second twin,
with a C-section, if necessary -- unless the contrary sisters decide
to go into the proper postion in the next two weeks. However, the
odds are decreasing as I type. In some ways, knowing that I will
have one is easier than the original plan where I might have one.
Who knows, I may get to pick their birthday.

Other than that I'm doing well on partial bed-rest (1 hr on my
left side every morning and afternoon and way reduced activity).
I have the ability to go out and run an errand or two if I *need*
to do so. Of course, half of the projects planned for their room
have fallen into a hold status. John built and painted both the
changing table and the shelving that we're using with lined
baskets as their dresser. He's been wonderful.

I wasn't going to say anything, but - the last I checked, there was a yarn
shop a few miles from here as well. But I haven't been there in a few
years, since I seem to prefer random scraps from yard sales to the fancy
stuff.

I have one of those delightfully-beautiful scarves. You introduced
me to a whole new world of knitting--it's not my grandmother's
knitting. I had no idea one could knit something so inviting to wear.
Yowza.

>Finished? What's that got to do with "next?"

"next" isn't just for yarn. The coffee table is covered by beads
these day. Perfect torching weather and I am making the best of it
while I can. The small remodeling project in the half-bath resulted
in having workers in our house every weeknight since mid-January. I
escape to the torch. I did take a break long enough to have the
floor tiles on the torch room Nice. Really nice.

Anyone know if it is easy to reverse the hot and cold water line to a
single handle shower faucet? Yes, it's in backward. No, I didn't do
it. A temporary workaround is to switch to the handheld shower head
and then turn off the water. Otherwise the last blast if hot instead
of cold.

It's not difficult if the access is easy. If you have to start cutting through
drywall to get to the pipes the difficult part will be the repair of the wall.

Was this part of the remodel? If so, I'd demand whoever did it, fix it.

That could be a problem. One side of the wall is the spanking new
shower unit, the other side is the spanking new bath cabinet.

>Was this part of the remodel? If so, I'd demand whoever did it, fix it.

Yup.

I hoped they could just switch the water lines in the crawl space, and
then I remembered the pvc used for the hot water was a different type
than the cold. I am so hoping the faucet is just installed backward.

That's a good thing! I know with twins they tend to be smaller, so 4-5
pounds now is very good.

Remember this. It's the behavior you don't want one to exhibit that
she'll unfailing learn from her sister. Ask my mother about my learning

I think it's usually easier on the mom to have a planned C than an
unplanned one. It makes it easier to set up your support systems.

it can be arranged.

Absolutely. One other possibility, if there's a basement or a crawl
space or somewhere else the shower feed is available, is to switch it
there. (If this involves swapping the last 18" of flex to the sink
that's probably OK, if it involves a hot-water-fed toilet, probably not)

Ooh. PVC! Nevermind then. If the fix can be done by pulling the valve
assemble out of the wall and swapping the feeds there's probably enough
flex in the PVC to do it. If not, can they pull the cabinet and put it
back cleanly?

(I guess it would be wrong to suggest that a few feet of the wrong PVC
isn't goig to make much difference unless you have really high pressure
or make a habit of drinking several gallons of hot shower water every day)

Got an appointment in a few weeks. I never did report

grand. I'll try to get around to saying something about
this one, though perhaps it'll just be paperwork stuff.

Thank you for activating the Smartass Response System!

Your innocent question has inspired an avalanche of
appropriate smartass responses, so much so that all operators are
busy sorting and selecting the best possible response to this
well-meaning but loaded query. If we find an appropriate
response, an icon with a raised index finger will appear in your

applicable responses and supply you with the most appropriately
smartassed comeback.

Erm...define easy. Probably not. Typical 'inside the wall' plumbing
connections (routing) to 'embeded' faucets are 'hard' plumbed. which is
to say; in rigid pipe with permanent connections. And there are _two_
lines. hot goes to the right side and cold to the left. (as viewed from
the users position). Now, to swap sides of the supply lines to the
fixture first one needs to gain access, aka- open up the wall. IF! there
is an (built in, and there damnwell _ought_ to be!) access panel to the
"back" side of the fixture then that part is easy, Once there.. Is it
copper or iron or bog ferbid plastic? Copper and plastic can be changed
over fairly easily, iron is 'cast iron bitch'...[insert contractors
frown, and duck]..... One to three days @ $50.00 per hour= $400.00 to
$1200.00 plus materials. Or- with enough money anything is e-z.

Huh? Switch from where? Are there two shower heads with a diverter valve
betwixt?

>Otherwise the last blast if hot instead of
>cold.

See now..to me.. Thats just weird. No mater which side of the fixture is
plumbed bass ackward once the mixture of hot to cold is established by
twisting the knob left or right.....volume is up for more and down for
less. and then it's..scrub scrub rub rub rince rince.... and a quick
down at the end of shower time should shut flow off banG. Done. and
over. There shouldent be time enough for the momentary mixture change to
even reach the head.

No fair! I'm in my spring gardening frenzy! You just can't expect

work *and* a well constructed, built-in TV cabinet and bookcase.
*Plus* he found a Bad Thing the <spit> electrician had done, and
fixed it. All I have to do is paint wall board and put a finish
on the wood. I'm *pleased* with the renovation I had done.

Just...just...think of your own adjectives!

no, some models are "turn only" with the water pressure
not being adjustable unless you put in some other
fixture (in the shower head itself or redoing the
fixture). i think it's on the "less moving parts
the better" principle.

There is still some plumbing repair to be done under the house. If
running hot water through the cold water line for about four feet is
not going to be a problem, the lines could be reversed under the
house. I might be more inclined to live with this oddity than to have
it "repaired" by swapping the lines. Then again, the original
plumbing in this house is probably non-standard anyway. What's
another four feet?

Yes. Funky push/pull button to divert water to the hand held.

It's a really kewl shower unit. In spite of the reversed temperature.

On the single handle faucet, one line turns on first. The more the
handle is rotated, the more the other line mixes with the first.
Usually it is cold water first, and hot is added.

Tis okay. So was my contractor.

I'm sure I will have lots of those experiences. Not to mention the
choral "screaming." John and I keep thinking back to our childhoods
and how stubborn and curious both of us were; I'm just imagining what
a pair of girls like us will be like.

I hope so. If nothing else, it'll be less stressful for all. I've
had a "touch of the ick" (as my OB called it) and went in to get the
twins monitored. Good strong heartbeats, except when I had a big
contraction and B. decided that she wanted to move and set off the
alarm and they couldn't find her heartbeat for 10 min.

Great to hear about some progress on that project!
Would the next step be for every sniggler to install
this kewl shower unit? Or maybe just Ogre...

I'm pleased to announce that with oodles of assistance from a certain
Turnip,
my first scarf is finished -- and I can soooo understand why that last step
would
have been difficult to explain via e-mail or over the phone! :-) I reckon
I'll be
making a trip to the yarn store sometime in the future to see what else I
can
get into....

I also spent Saturday afternoon a week or so ago with a friend at a
paint-your-
own-pottery place (called The Latest Glaze, here). We painted bowls. The
staff
were incredibly helpful, friendly and fun. The Beatles were on the CD
player.
It was a nice, relaxing way to spend an afternoon. I think I could really
get into
a hobby that I don't have to buy a bunch of stuff for, find a space for, or
clean
up after. The 1BR apartment is only so large, and the storage bin in the
basement
isn't really large enough for a workshop, after all.

If Ogre would just get his end of the teleporter ready for beta
testing....course we could use a volunteer for the testing phase.

I admit that I am a beer philistine. I can drink pale wheat beer, or
stout, if they do not taste much of hops, but I really, really prefer wine.

Bottle cover? Doable as a first project. Pony or keg cover? Not
really a good beginner option...

JLC, or dog sweaters!!!

Admitting you have a problem is the first step towards getting

No, no, I danced naked on the dark of the moon last month,
bent over, and blew a beer fart upwards to The Mother of All
Possums. It's A Well Known Fact that beer farts appease Her
Glorious Possumness.

And if that doesn't work, the possum skull I lashed to the fence
post at the end of the driveway should serve as a deterrent.

I take ceramics and I love it. All of those reasons apply, plus when I
walk in the door my mind just goes into a different focus, which is
verra relaxing.

I keep thinking that I'm going to try the paint your own pottery place,
but I really want to throw pots myself, so I think that will be my next
step... Like I need more crafts...

Exactly.

What you need is more beer.

And peppers.

Can't have too many beers or too many peppers.

A tabard, a tunic and a jacket. That seems to be just enough to provide
enough variety. The knitting magazines provide wonderful inspiration.
