I have just had my 64th birthday and my wife is 58. We are enjoying
sex more than ever before and we still fuck at least 3 times a week
during normal times, but every day or more when we are away on
holiday. We both find that we like to make it last longer than when we
were younger and we often keep going until the need to throw just
overwhelms us and one of us has to let go. My wife usually comes first
and when I feel and hear her throwing it brings me on very soon
afterwards. We both think that the intensity of our orgasms is greater
now than when we were younger and that this may have something to do
with the fact that we hold off for longer and let the tension build up
more until it just has to burst over the dam, as it were. We are both
fit and active and this may have some bearing on our enjoyment of sex
and our ability to orgasm powerfully. Also, I have recently had a
recircumcision to remove all looseness of penile shaft skin which
developed over the years due to stretching during erections, sex etc
and this has enhanced sexual sensation for us both during intercourse.
The tension of the skin also seems to strengthen my erections, which
remain very firm and the tight skin slides against my wifes clitoral
and labial areas very effectively. So, for us sex just gets better and
better - I hope that we are still at it like rabbits in 20 years
time! What is the experience of other couples?

Well, other than the fact that we are 67 and 60, ditto to everything.
It just keeps getting better.....oh, god did I say that *again*?

Well, I'm in my longest relationships right now, at 5.5 years, so I'll
let you know. :-)

My libido seems to have decreased a little over the past few years, but
I'm not sure how much of that is hormones, how much is age, and how much
is that I have enough sex on a regular basis that I don't get frustrated
any more.

Serene, Having really good sex on a regular basis makes for wanting
more of it as far as I am concerned and frustration comes quickly
after no sex for a couple of days! Maybe your libido has decreased a
little because sex is becoming too predictable, so perhaps you should
try masturbating, say twice a day, in between times to feed your
fantasies and to make you hunger for the real thing.

We're 65 and 62 with 43+ yr on the odometer. We're still getting it
on, tho not as often. Perhaps once a week, but we've both learned a
lot. We get more satisfaction from a once a week horizontal mambo,
than when it was more like 3 or 4 times a week.

People are different. Part of my makeup seems to be that the lovely,
comfortable feeling of long-term relationships ratchets my libido down a
little. I don't look at that as a bad thing.

Why? First of all, I think masturbation is plenty real. Second, I'm
happy with my sex life as it is. I have very good relationships with
both my partners, with as much sex as we can manage without scaring the
horses.

It is also true that for many of us, a longer term relationship
becomes, well -- let me put this another way: you know that
new relationship energy? After a number of years it isn't there
any more.

That does NOT mean that the relationship is doomed or even in
any way endangered. It just means that it has entered a new
phase of comfort and depth.

It is nice to see that some people keep it up (pun intended). I'm 69
and my wife is 62 and married 11 years. Once or twice a week would
seem like heaven compared to the reality of every 2 or 3 months. Have
done couples therapy and the answer seems to be libido, so/so verses
no/no. :-(

Right. We call what we have now "ORE", old relationship energy, and
while it doesn't carbonate our hormones in the way it once did, we have
this sweet, steady, and yes, still horny for each other feeling, just
without that crazy brain chemistry that makes it hard to leave the house
or hold down a job. :-)

Right. Exactly. I wouldn't want to give up NRE forever, but it can
really give way to something equally delicious and beautiful.

Scaring the horses? - wow, you're scaring me now Serene. Glad you're
happy and getting enough to keep you at home!

I hate to say this, and it will completely destroy my reputation
around here, but sometimes -- *every now and again* -- I don't really
feel like it. I'd rather answer emails or finish unloading the
dishwasher.

But I almost always go with DH's desires, and 10 times out of 10, I
really get into it. It's like with any inertia. Once you gather up
the necessary energy to get past that initial dead stop, you pick up
speed and catch up quickly. It's all about NOT saying, naw, I don't
feel like it right now, but about smiling and and saying, why the heck
not!

For me, anyway.

Well, as long as it's an email to me, I could understand that.

Ah, now I'm with ya.

I once had a partner who used to say "I may not always be in the mood,
but I can usually be _convinced_."
