We’ve all heard that men reach their sexual peak at 18 and women reach
theirs at 28 – so what does that mean for people who are in their 70s
and 80s?
Results of a new survey may surprise you.
Researchers at the University of Chicago studied 3,000 elderly American
men and women who lived at home and not in nursing homes. What they
found was that more than three-quarters of men and half of women between
the ages of 75 to 85 are still interested in sex, Reuters reported.
"It's not age per se; that when you get to 80 it's all over with,"
sociologist Edward Laumann, said in a telephone interview with the news
agency.
"It's driven by more proximate factors such as if you become obese, or
you're smoking too much, or you contract diabetes. Medications can
depress sexual interest. The aging process itself is not a major factor
driving these results.”
A non-existent sex life should also serve as a warning sign, Laumann said.
"If sexual health goes to hell, it may be a canary in the mine shaft. It
may be a sign of health problems.”
And there’s always the issue of finding a partner to have sex with –
which can be especially hard for the elderly.
Among women aged 70 and older, 70 percent have outlived or are separated
from their spouses. Among men in that age group, 35 percent have lost a
long-time partner, according to the report.
But, there is some good news on this front. Last month, Swedish
researchers reported that 70-year-olds of both sexes are having more sex
than they did 30 years ago.

My wife's uncle was getting it on with the neighborhood widows until
nearly 90.
I'm 65 and still going strong after 43 years with the same sex maniac.
The occasional blip down in the Hydraulics Subsystem, but I have a
well trained tongue only too eager to take up the slack.

I don't think that this is new. Victor Hugo was chasing his much
younger maid Blanche Lavinat the age of 75, which was the subject of
ridicule and outrage. And sexual activity in elders is usually more a
problem than anything else. For example, I have first hand reports
from nurses in nursing homes which are not positive or even downright
sordid. When elderly men or women suffer from senile dementia, in many
cases whatever control they have on their pulsions disappear. Assaults
on the nurses (female or male) happen. Being interested in sex is
fine... as long as your partner is alive and willing. In nursing
homes, most pensionners are female and widowed.

From my point of view 18 is better than 70 if only that one's
arthritis hasn't yet shown up.
But 70 ain't that bad. Viagra may be needed or not. Depends.
But sex is still good, very very good.

18? You must be joking - at 64 I'm still waiting to reach my peak and
my 58 year old wife says that she feels hornier now than ever she did
at 28. I didn't meet her until she was 35 - she certainly was horny
then, but she's hornier, wilder, wetter and more orgasmic now and
that's a fact!

I don't know about 70 year old men but I can share little about my
experience of the the way 70 year old women (professionals including a
physician) behaved in professional environment. I was 35; it was my
very first visit to a Gynocologist. I got the doctor's name from an
old lady working at school (in Int'l Office). During the exam, he
asked me whether I had unprotected sex and I said yes. (Yes because I
knew who I was with and didn't need to worry). By the time I was back
in the front office area, doing paper work, that piece of news was
already spread to the old secretaries on the front counter area. very
annoying if you asked. I bet, the doctor also told that old lady from
whom I got her info from. Wished I had gone to a man Gynocologist.
Seriously. Women don't see to have respect for each other.
