Hey, I learned something: one of our favorite positions has a name:
====
SIM'S POSITION-
This position, named after a famous surgeon-gynecologist, is a modified
rear-entry position, recommended by Dr. Friedman for instances where the
woman is obese and the man is not. The woman begins by lying on one
side. Then, the doctor informs us, "she draws her upper leg all the way
up (toward her head) so that the knee of the upper leg is opposite the
hip of her lower leg. This position makes her vagina readily accessible
from slightly above and behind. The man kneels behind her, with one knee
on each side of her straight leg, and makes entry from the rear at a
slight sideward angle. If necessary, he can raise his body slightly by
means of a pillow below each knee."
Frankly, I think this just makes the whole process unnecessarily
complex, and it seems to me that a woman would need ballet training
before she could lift her knee to the desired height, even assuming that
other parts of her anatomy didn't get in the way. Nevertheless, this is
just a personal prejudice. I can't speak from experience.
=====
Gosh, I don't think it's awkward at all! I've introduced several
partners to this, all to the good. An advantage is that (assuming that
neither of you are massive) you can achieve some pretty deep
penetration. You also get to fondle your partner as she's laying there,
which is never a bad thing.
It does require some decent back and thigh muscles if you're going to be
using it for more than a few minutes, because the man can't really brace
himself against anything. He can, however, lean sort of forward and
toward her back for support.
Can't remember where I got this one. Leafing through the Kama Sutras
when I was in my 20s, I would guess. I can't remember what the original
name of this was.

Not at all.

Back in the day I used to consume a fairly large amount of
scotch. On the rocks, of course.
Never mixed it with chocolate. That was another but separate
pleasure.

Generally I like red wine with chocolate, but found it does well with
whiskey, too.

BTW, I like chocolate with many things. With itself is best though

I've seen it spelt both ways, but whiskey is more common in the US.

Canadian is usually more smooth, and generally it's blended. I don't
think I've ever seen "single malt" Candian.

Maybe it was really made in Montana?
What is it?
ObSex: I've never had sex in Montana. It's one of the 40+ states that
I've never had sex in.
Hmm. Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania, Illinois, California, North Carolina, Florida. Yup, 40.
I only put that in because the last time we had a discussion about food
and liquor we got spanked. Not that I'm complaining - usually it costs
me $250 an hour for that...
MacNaughton's. So far I've only seen it available in E. WA and N. Idaho
liquor stores. Though it says it's made for and imported by the John
Macnaughton Ltd of Kentucky, so it may be exported only.

I've been there, a couple times with my exbf, and we might have had sex
while there.

Don't know that I'd say proud, but our particular styles of weirdness
are working for us.
ObSex: I was just having a discussion elsenet about how people assume
that because I'm bi and poly, I have tons of sex partners and go to sex
parties. They're sometimes disappointed at the reality. It's kind of
funny to be an oddity because of sex I'm *not* having, to tell you the
truth. :-)
Yes, I've read your posts about this before. Kinda puts a dent in other
people's vision of what bi and poly can be like...

Yep. Hope it helps the OP. Most of my partners have been fat (as am I),

Glad to hear it, and you're welcome. Hope you'll stick around. It's a

Serene (a smartass, as well)
Hey Serene...is Umar from that other group? I have sex on the brain
(and I haven't been able to get away from that condition for about the
past 3 weeks) and just can't rely on my memory.
ObSex: Met someone new (about 3 weeks ago). Is a friend of somebody I
work with. Was up till 2AM one night talking and flirting with him in
my living room (he crashed in the guest room). Have spent much of the
last several weeks not getting work or much else done and chatting
online with him. Talk about sexual tension. The story is more for the
rest of you all...Serene has heard about it already elsewhere I think.
Darklily
Nope; that's a whole other Umar, whose real name is actually something
different.

New Relationship Endorphins? Just clarifying.
Same thing happens to me when I get a new power tool.

Close. New Relationship Energy (right, Serene?).

Uh huh...remind me not to borrow your power tools. :P
Glad to see you are around...there have been a few people wondering
(on your blog) where you've been. No HNT?
Darklily
Probably... it's new relationship energy.
sure
Ah, the smell of the oil when you open the box. The heft as you hold it

Hah! Like I'd loan my power tools to just *anybody.*
Besides, maybe we'd have to work very closely so I could show you how to
use them. . . properly.
> Glad to see you are around...there have been a few people wondering

I've been juggling a few other projects the past week or so. Plus I've
got people out at work, and I'm trying to clean out the garage and attic
at home. And I've been spending a lot of time working out and biking
instead of being on teh internetz lately.
I'm becoming one of those fitness-obsessed people - although hopefully
I'm not going to be one of those "reformed smoker" types who tells you
"Don't have that cheeseburger and milkshake, it's too many fat calories.
Here, have this nice banana and a handful of nuts, instead."
And I'll get to the HNTs, I promise. I've just been trying to lose a few
more pounds and a couple of inches off the gut. It's making my wife
crazy, but I keep reminding her that I'll be one of the healthiest (and
hottest) 50 year olds in our social group.
Yeah, or New Relationship Energy.
>
> Same thing happens to me when I get a new power tool.
I can get NRE for people or projects; it doesn't have to be about
sex/romance.
Yeah, but do you get it for new power tools?
Damn, I haven't bought myself a new powertool in a long time. I need a
fix now.

The next one I want is a router. I want to start building some simple
furniture, and I think that would make things a lot simpler. (I have my
own jigsaw, power drill/driver, and a few other things, but I'm not a
serious do-it-yourselfer, so they're no great shakes. Still, they make
me happy.)

Well, more what bi and poly are like for many people. Certainly they
*can* be like what Serene described people expecting. (On the other
hand, my bi poly lifestyle contains contains about as many different sex
partners and sex parties as Serene's, so certainly the "glamoroush poly
lifestyle" reality is fairly comfortable and ordinary for many.)

I reckon the key characteristic of being poly is that one does not
find it aversive for one's partner(s), particularly one's primary
partner if applicable, to be intimate with others (if one does not
feel the need to assign ranks to one's partners at all, then this
would naturally also qualify.) In fact, if one does not foresee having
a long-term monogamous relationship then there's less of a rush to
finish experimenting before that time.
My primary partner lives in another country. We're both poly in terms
of our emotional makeup; we have other online partners but we've
decided to be temporarily monogamous in terms of real-life physical
sex until after we are living together in person.

I don't think that's the key characteristic for most of the poly people
I know. Rather, I think they key characteristic is that they feel
romantic/sexual love for more than one person at a time.

My poly relationships are not "experimental", and never have been.

Yeah. You gotta work it. I mean, didn't you ever hear the joke:
An elderly man walks into a confessional and starts to recount a tale.
"I am 92 years old, have a wonderful wife of 70 years, many children,
grandchildren and great grandchildren," says the man. "But yesterday, I
picked up two 21-year-old girls, who were hitch-hiking. We went to a
hotel where I made love to each of them three times."
"Are you sorry for your sins?" the priest asks.
"What sins?" replies the man.
"What kind of a Catholic are you?" says the priest, clearly shocked by
the man's lack of shame.
"I'm not a Catholic, I'm Jewish." the man replies calmly.
"Well why on earth are you telling me all this?" asks the priest getting
impatient.
The man responds "Father... I'm telling EVERYBODY!"
....

Ah... the outdoor type.
-Sam
I agree in a sense -- and perhaps I should have said *a* key
characteristic, rather than *the* key characteristic of being poly. I
think the most salient characteristic one associates with being poly
is feeling romantic/sexual love for more than one person at a time,
but yet whether one can call oneself poly(-amorous) hinges more on
whether one feels comfortable with one's partner(s) doing the same
thing. If someone only wants to be with one person themselves but
doesn't mind that person having multiple relationships, they're not
poly. If someone wants to have multiple relationships but wants one or
more of their partners to be exclusive to them, then they're not poly,
either. The framework I'm suggesting is that one needs to both desire
multiple relationships for oneself plus accept their partners wanting
the same thing in order to be poly; there needs to be a premise of
equality involved. Naturally, if someone feels romantic/sexual love
for more than one person at a time then they will be more likely to
understand their partners feeling the same thing and not be bothered
by it, thus the two traits are likely to have a high positive
correlation with each other.
> > In fact, if one does not foresee having

Mine neither. My point was more to do with how some monogamous people
(and some people who end up in a long-term monogamous relationship,
whether this is their preference or not) have to deal with the issue
of whether they're restricted from being able to experiment with
anything outside a monogamous framework that they might still be
curious about.
Matthew
I still disagree. I know plenty of poly people who are not comfortable
with their partners' other relationships, and I don't think that makes
them less poly at all.

I disagree.

Maybe. Still, I don't think that having jealous feelings, or not wanting
your [generic "you", not you in particular] partner to be poly while you
are, means you're not poly. It may be unfair and even untenable, but it
doesn't rule out your being poly.
>I disagree.
(several times)
I'm with you--I think MV is trying to squeeze 'polyamorous' into a
far-too-narrow box. But at least he seems to have given the matter a
bit of thought.

So your point is? Sorry, but I don't quite see what you mean. So, some
people would not mind experimenting, are even curious about it, but
they are restricted from being able to "experiment". And? What is the
point? Isn't this what monogamy is about: promising that you won't
"experiment" even if you feel like it? What is your solution when
someone wants to "experiment"?
Let me take an example to make things clear. A and B are married. A
asked for an exclusive relationship (monogamy) and B agreed. (Whether
A agreed to the same thing or B asked for it as well is immaterial to
the discussion, actually.) One day, B feel like changing his or her
mind and "experiment". As far as I know, there are only three options:
-not doing what you want
-deception
-talk with A about changing the promises.
So what point did you want to make?
