To Save the Republic, Tax the Rich?
May 10, 2012
From the Archive: The urgent question facing the advanced capitalistic
societies of Europe and the United States is: can “free markets” still
meet the people’s needs or will those needs be sacrificed to the
market’s demand for “austerity” — and if so, what does that mean for
democracy — as Robert Parry asked in 2009.

I say drag them out of their castles and guillotine them.
Or take them into the woods and shoot them. It really worked
great in France and Russia, huh?

Austerity will come one way or another. Triage is in our future.

First the Republicans (i.e., the rich and the super rich) have to pay
back what they took and bring the deficits and debt back to where they
were before Ronald Reagan. Then we can debate tax rates and spending
levels.

Good look with that idea. I've been reading reports of the rich renouncing their US citizenship.

If you can get a list, along with their addresses, I'll send them a
nice farewell card. Is Romney on that list, by the way?

You and chatnoir are paranoid. The Rich The Rich..the Rich are taking
all the food from the peasants and we are in the dugeons starving to death.
How long can we eat rutabaga and turnips?
You two remind me of a Monty Python skit. Talk about a religious
Crusade...you guys have your class warfare crusade. Maybe you could
come up with a home game version...of...kill the rich and eat them.

The food for peasants, etc., is a fantasy in your mind. The debt and
deficit are very real.
