She was not in the room of UNARMED PEOPLE, you idiot.
How long to wish to advertise your lack of learning?
She was an on duty Department of the Army Civilian Police officer,
responding with her partner to the call. The DACP officers are in the
process of replacing the Military Police for base law enforcement
duties, so the MP's can be assigned overseas. The MP Corps is the force
of choice for most of the duties in Iraq. The MP's on patrol also would
have had their pistols loaded.
Other than the MP's, soldiers on base are not even issued firearms
unless called for by that day's training schedule.

All this has already been released to the news. You're lying
> All this has already been released to the news. You're lying
Not necessarily. Some (many?) people do not listen to the "news" as
promulgated by the media, preferring instead to get their unfiltered and
unbiased information from blogs and newsgroups.
For example, here we have a radicalized Muslim, killing American soldiers as
a suicide-shooter, and not a single news organization is calling this a
"terrorist act," you've got to be skeptical of the news media.
It hasn't been proven yet. Why would they start a lie. Remember..the
news media are all liberals and it's the conservatives who love to
lie.
CNN raised the question on several levels the only response was from Gen
Honre (spl) who opined that there was insufficient information to make even
a preliminary determination.
:
What has not been proven yet? There is conclusive proof that he was a
Muslim, having been one all his life. His internet postings show his
radicalization. He conclusively was the shooter and killed US Soldiers.
So, what are you going to say, that this was not an act of terrorism? I
guess you work for the FBI who also made that claim almost as soon as
the shooting occurred, even when they thought they had three shooters in
a coordinated attack.

Let's see if I have this healthcare thingy right. Congress is to pass
a plan written by a committee whose head has said he doesn't understand
it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it, signed by a president who
hasn't read it, with funding administered by a Treasury chief who didn't
pay his taxes because he didn't understand TurboTax, overseen by an obese
Surgeon General and financed by a country that's nearly broke.
What could possibly go wrong?
That's a non-sequitur. A synonym for "conservative" is "truth teller."
There are those who are experts with gun and there are those who rush to the
sound of the guns.
Fortunately, in this case, the two characteristics overlapped.
Yep, according to reports she not only responded, but she was shooting as
she closed with him. He charged her after her initial shot and she took
him down while she, herself, suffered wounds to her wrist, lower leg and
thigh. I don't know how many rounds she (or he) fired, but she got him
four times and stopped the carnage. She deserves every kudo she gets.
See? A lie!
Why stop there?

I might add that the peace of mind to which you refer is achieved as a

liberals...
There was only one armed man in there... the one that you want to have

How does it feel when your world crashes down on you?
There were no armed friendlies within a mile of the shooting. The first
armed help took three minutes to get to the scene, in a car, after receiving

* Economic Legacy
Reagan Policies Gave Green Light to Red Ink
By Jonathan Weisman
Washington Post Staff Writer Wednesday, June 9, 2004; Page A11
The line is not likely to make this week's eulogies to Ronald
Reagan, but when Vice President Cheney allegedly declared, "Reagan
proved deficits don't matter," he summed up an enduring argument from
the former president's economic legacy.
[...]
Benjamin M. Friedman, a Harvard University economist who lamented
Reagan's fiscal policies in his 1988 book "Day of Reckoning," said the
expansion of foreign credit has tempered the feared hikes in long-term
interest rates that he thought would cripple the economy. But, he
said, "that doesn't let deficits off the hook."
"It's important to realize that interest rates are set on world
capital markets; therefore, a large deficit need not impact capital
formation," he said, referring to economic investments in new plants
and equipment that drive growth. "But that's identical to saying we
will continue to do capital formation, but we'll do it by forever
borrowing abroad."
And that spells trouble, said Niskanen of Reagan's Council of
Economic Advisers. Debt does have to be repaid, and foreign investors
-- primarily the central banks of Japan, Britain and China -- own $1.7
billion of federal debt. That, he said, has made the country "terribly
dependent" and "terribly vulnerable."
That is a bipartisan fear. "The key point is, even if it were
sustainable, it's not desirable," said Orszag, a prominent Democratic
economist. "We still will owe the money to foreigners. We're still
mortgaging our future national income. Just because you can take out a
larger mortgage to buy a bigger house doesn't mean you should."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A26402-2004Jun8?language=printer
----------------------------------------------------------------
We no longer have to wait a century to find out whose economic
policies work and whose don't. Reagan/Bush/Cheney and their economics
apologists were wrong.
Friedman, Orszag, Krugman, and a host of sane economics are
right.
Deficits are only a magic wand for rightwingers who don't care
what happens to our nation, only that they make profits and loudly
deny the fact that it is our economy they steal from.
No, no. Please tell us about FDRs lies.

>Or, as a question... Is social Security an Insurance Policy or a Tax?
Neither. It's an "entitlement". And since mine is about to kick in,
it's one that will NEVER be overturned.
It's welfare, and a tax, and it just may be overturned one day. It's a
darn good thing the Bush administration wasn't able to privatize it, though.
FDR was telling the country that it was Insurance, his attorneys were
telling the SCOTUS that it was a tax.
Were they both lying?
Today's Social Security, after 75 years, barely resembles the original
plan. Originally, it sorta' resembled a mutual insurance plan, self
funded through a separate tax, but no longer.

No, it was a "win-win" situation for the government, in that it was a tax,
that was floated as insurance. The feds took us to the cleaners with that

What makes you think this is an either/or type question? It is both, a
tax and an insurance policy. As far as I can tell, it is also
unconstitutional, as there is no authority in the Constitution for this
as a federal program (and FDR did worry that SCOTUS would overturn it -
that part I found records of).
