So was John Kerry.
Always thinking he was 100% Irish Catholic,
he found out his relatives moved to Boston and
became Catholic (maybe to fit in, blend in and
be lost in the crowd) Not the best motive but
generations later who knew.
However conversions occured before WWII. One
Jewish family had 3 girls and 3 boys entered
the monstery. Their parents expressed no
religion. All the sisters and brothers met
at one place before the Nazis killed them.
Their captors could not figure out why
they were so happy, but they had not seen each
other in years. They had long been under solemn
vows before Hitler came to power, so they
did not enter to hide out.
