My sister just informed me of some news that blew me away, (my mom
confirmed what she said). My sister told me that Sikh women do not
call their husbands by their first name. Now I might be too dense
to ever pick this up, but it was shocking to me. She found this
out be speaking to two new brides with whom she socializes with.
I find this to be disturbing and silly (stupid really). It really
is a shame that we cannot throw the yoke of these assinine customs
out of our culture. It might not mean much but my future bride,
(if I can find a sadarni to marry me) will always call me by my
first name and she will be a true partner. It's a shame that a
religion and culture as we have is still mired in these practices.
