Pork is dangerous, it is usually filled with parasites. That's why
Allah forbids it.
Peter J. LaPrade, Massachusetts Young Republican.
Personal quotes: Don't Vote for a Kennedy! AOL is the Evil Empire,
Islam is the Truth.
There are a number of reasons for banning the pig; the most obvious is the
harm from the meat. It is not really a "test," it is simply for our own
good.
The pig is the only mammal which doesn't "fight" for mating rights. For
this reason, as pig generations progress, they dont necessarily get
healthier, as is the case of animals where the strongest win the right to
mate. This practice is an instinctual way of keeping the generations
healthy.
In terms of the meat itself, pork has the highest content of harmful fatty
tissues and cholesterol. It also is known to contain diseases which other
red meats do not.
The same reason alcohol is banned. To cut off contact with people they don't
like and create separatism.
No, no, Alcohol was banned because we all know of its affect on
society, which is nothing but evil it brings. Pork is haram because
it's dangerous.
I can think of two other MAJOR religions that do not permit the
consumption of pork.
Judaism, which bans it because in the Torah G-d declared the pig to be
impure for consumption, without giving a reason. (Orthodox Jews, such as
myself, do not consider parasites to be THE reason or it would have been
explicitly stated. The prohibition does not take into consideration that
more efficient cooking methods would evolve over the centuries. :) )
Hinduism has many sects which forbid the consumption of meat altogether.
Pork is banned but so is beef, fowl, and lamb.
BTW, you will probably get some responses that Islam "stole" the
prohibition of pork from the Jews. I do not subscribe to this theory,
because there is no sense in adopting ONE prohibition (pork) while
simultaneously permitting other foods explicitly prohibited in the same
Jewish teachings that forbid pork. Muslims, for example, are free to eat
catfish, which lacks scales and thus is prohibited to Jews. Whatever
reasons Islam has for prohibiting pork, they originated in Islam and not
as an influence from another religion or culture.

Since posting this, I have been informed via email that Shi'ite Muslims
who follow the 12 Imams who follow Muhammed do not eat catfish; they eat
only fish with scales and shrimp. I was not aware of this difference in
Islamic practice between Shi'ite and Sunnite Islam, as all of the 10 or 12
Halal/Zabiha markets in my neighborhood prominently feature catfish.
I stand corrected.
But the most specific reason is that a person, tends to loose their self
respect and their morals once they consume pork.
They don't take religion in a propper manner, and don't care about
serious things, and find the wrong right and the right wrong.

The knowledge taught to us through Islam's holy book, "The Qur'an" is revelation
>from God.
God prohibits the swine because it harms the human being either physically or
spiritually. No matter how much man 'knows' about its 'benefits etc of pork'
his knowledge can never supercede the knowledge of God.
To eat the pig is a sin in Islam. Those who abstain will be rewarded. Those
that don't will be punished. The only exception is dire necessity. In that
case to not eat it is a sin.
005.003 Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine,
and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah; that which
hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or
by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal;
unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on
stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with
arrows: that is impiety. This day have those who reject faith given up all hope
of your religion: yet fear them not but fear Me. This day have I perfected your
religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as
your religion. But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to
transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
I like the Gujarati (Indian) way of cooking. No meat, just vegetables. They
have really mastered the art of cooking without meat.
I am curious, what does your diet contain now that you are Muslim.
I always thought that Fish was preferable to meat in your society.
No meat! I'm a Pakistani muslim, and unfortunetly I can't go without meat.
So I buy it halal. It cost more, but small price to pay. Although I've found
that eating out its not hard to keep things halal. Vegetables, pasta, breads,
etc are usually bountiful.
