A decade ago, a majority of U.S. 16-29 year olds were favorably disposed
towards Christianity: today it's only 16% (3% towards evangelical
Christians). Why? Common perceptions - 'anti-homosexual' (91%),
judgmental (87%), hypocritical (85%), old-fashioned (78%), too
'political' (75%), boring (68%), insensitive to others (70%). [Kinnamon
& Lyons 2007]. Why? why? why? why? why?

[The book is "unChristian". I recommend it. Kinnamon's conclusion
is that to a large extent the impressions are justified. --clh]

This is what happens when we condemn the world for its sin while trying to
justify ours; when we try lead people to us, rather than to Christ; and when
we rely on our own strength and power rather than the Spirit of the Living
God, Whose fruits include love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Granted, some of these perceptions are amplified by government media and
"schools," both of which can reliably be counted on to paint all that is
good in the worst possible light, and vice versa.

But you don't need to look much further than right here to realize that all
of these complaints have significant basis in fact.

Young people don't need this kind of "Christianity."

They need Christ.

B - why are they this way? or why do the people think they are this way?
I personally find certain kinds of Christianity totally averse to what I
believe Jesus spoke of as being really Christ-like. Those particular kinds
also seem to be the ones that shout out the most, push fear at one etc.
I'm personally glad that people are reclaiming Christ for themselves
outside of what a particular "social club" tells them to do or think.
