At the moment of salvation,
Christ gives us light by showing us
thru the Gospel that on the cross
he became our Righteous Substitute
so that he is our righteousness and salvation.
Having given us that light,
Christ then gives us the faith
to let go of trusting in all else
and place all our trust on Christ alone for salvation.
Having given us that faith,
Christ then regards his own righteousness as ours,
so that we have eternal life.
Having given us eternal life,
Christ then comes into our heart as the Righteousness of God,
our Eternal Life, our Light, our Righteousness, our Salvation,
our New Birth, our Everything, and we know him as though
meeting him face to face.

No, Christ saves us. He doesn't just enable us to
commit an act (of letting go) so that we can save
ourselves. That's what the Pharisees believed.
