Of all the things that people need to have clear,
it is the Gospel because it shows how to be saved.
Just to tell people to receive Jesus as Savior does
not tell people the truth that enables receiving him.
And today to tell people to receive Jesus as Lord
generally causes people to trust in their surrender.
What people need to know is that Jesus takes
our place as our Righteous Substitute for salvation.
That way people place all their trust in Christ to regard
(impute) his own righteousness as though being theirs.
And because people then know that the righteousness
required for salvation is that of Christ rather than their
own "righteousness", they do not trust their surrender.
As the Scriptures put it: so by the obedience of one
shall many be made righteous. (Romans 5:19 KJV)
