To transfer trust from all else onto Christ
so that you are saved, is not to stop
doing those things that should definitely
be done, such as repentance, baptism,
church, sacrament, giving, endurance,
but rather to stop trusting in those
things for salvation because all trust
must be on Christ in order to be saved.

Christ showed the real Scriptural Gospel
to enable the Protestant Reformation
so that people could trust in him alone
rather than all the other things that
people trust in for salvation, but that
Gospel is hardly heard today:

In the Gospel is revealed the righteousness
of God: the righteousness of Christ
imputed to us when we trust him alone
to be our righteousness for salvation.

Christ the Son of God, one God with
his Father, regards his own righteousness
as though ours to give us eternal life.

This is why Christ does that when we trust
him to be our Substitute: He came into
the world to take our place, lived a life
without sin for us, went to the cross
and died for us, and rose again.

On the cross, Christ paid for our sins
even though he never actually sinned,
so that we could have eternal life
even though we never actually will
ever be as righteous as is he.
He imputed our sin to himself
there on the cross
to pay for our sin,
so that he could impute
his righteousness to us forever
to give us eternal life.

John 14:1-6, John 16:7-12,
Romans 1:16-17, Romans 3:22-23,
Romans 4:4-5, 2 Corinthians 5:21,
Philippians 3:3-9, Titus 3:4-8)
