Description: Discussion group for the Fraternity "Freemasonry". (Moderated)

to be one, ask one, and customs
There has been discussion in my lodge about the custom that a man must ask to join our fraternity, rather than be asked. In Illinois, this is currently not the case, as we have an Invitation to Petition program. A petition for degrees must be submitted, but this is after the lodge has balloted on the candidate and the candidate has been... more »

Lodge level honorary award?
Brethren, Does your jurisdiction have a standardized award to honor a brother who has made a well above average contribution to the lodge and/or to Masonry in general, but who for one reason or another never went through the line? For brothers who did go through the line there the title of Past Master. For brothers who are not members but who regularly attend... more »

Western Star #91 set
I wrote to Western Star #91, 329 S. Main St, Rutherfordton. The letter came back because of no such number. I guess this is normal behavior for stars at the western horizon :-) Chris

Temple Topics Newletter Now On-line
Hello Brothers- Our local Masonic Newspaper is now set-up to be read on-line. This paper has been a hard won and important part of the fabric of Illinois Freemasonry for more than a century and several of us who post here also contribute. September 2009, October 2009 & November 2009 editions are now online and the paper in whole or in part is downloadable... more »

In Canada...
I seem to have some (ahem) issues with my posts hitting the news queue via my newsfeed at individual.net, so I'm resorting to posting via Google (oh, the humanity!) for the time being... Anyway. Here I am in Calgary, to be sharing lunch with Bro. Mudge tomorrow. Next week, the show reaches Vancouver... Jim Bennie? You in... more »

Visit to Grand Lodge of Colombia in Bogota - Four Elements
I recently had a great opportunity to visit the Grand Lodge of Colombia in Bogota. It was a very interesting visit and as usual Brothers are Brothers wherever you go. Very gracious, very helpful. I was given a tour of the 4 Chambers of Reflection - Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. This is a Masonic ritual I am unfamiliar with in any of the... more »

GL results from California?
Is anyone willing to post the results of the legislation that was voted on in California GL a few weeks ago? My California lodge included brief summaries in last month's trestleboard. Carryover- 08-08 Change the way life membership funds are handled. That one interests me. This month my Shrine voted to make it mandatory... more »

Looking for a Prince Hall Mason near Worcester, MA
Hi, One of our black students from Portland, OR is attending college and is having a hard time acclimating to east coast attitudes. He has a full ride scholarship and needs just little niceties like a lamp, bulletin board, etc for his dorm room. But the thing he probably needs the most is some moral support and mentoring. Right now he keeps to himself in his dorm room when not at class or athletic practice. Part of it may just be being away from home and family a full continent away. If anyone can help this young man, please email me at R...@shcc.org<mailto:R...@shcc .org>... more »
