Re Richard Watson's mention of Oregon petitioners' having to wait 5 years before applying to another lodge following an initial rejection, I'm taken aback by that length of time. I've never heard of more than a 1-year wait in such situations.

Let's hear from other posters on this subject. What does your GL require in terms of a waiting period before an unsuccessful petitioner can reapply, either to the original rejecting lodge or to another within your GL?

I know it's 1 year for the Women's Grand Lodge of Belgium and Le Droit Humain because I was rejected by both of them back in the day! Incidentally, I'm now happily situationed in the Eastern Order of International Co-Freemasonry, which is itself a spinoff from Le Droit Humain.

Hi Janet;

Under the jurisdiction of the GL of NY, F&AM it is one year before one
can re-apply after being rejected.

If memory serves, a rejected petitioner can apply again after only one
year in Oregon. But if he chooses to petition a different Lodge, the
one he first petitoned has to give its permission. My code book is at
home so I con't know for sure.

In the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia, under the "Masonic Code of
the District of Columbia, Section 105, states, "No candidate whose
application has been rejected by a Lodge shall again be proposed within six
months after rejection."

Illinois does one year. But, the practice in my Lodge is,
theoretically, that we waive jurisdiction with the same order that
returns the fee. I say theory because we have never, in this Lodge,
black-balled a candidate within living memory. In fact, we usually
take other's sloppy seconds and reMaster them into our sound track of
Officers. Just this month, we picked up another new member from a
downtown (Chicago) Lodge.
The Lodge that raised me had that sort of neourotic trouble,
rejecting the occasional candidate or affiliate. And though I found a
certain personal distaste in the actualization, I defended and will
continue to respect the immemorial right of a member to reject
material into his Lodge without stating cause.
