At our annual installation of officers in December, I had the privilege of
being appointed Soloist at our Lodge (Tuscan #126 in Manchester, CT).
Our lodge has never had a Soloist before, and no one seems to know exactly
what I should be singing. We will be performing all three degrees in the
coming months and I would like to contribute wherever appropriate, but I
don't know what that would be.
Can anyone shed some light (or sound) on this? I'd appreciate the help.
Yours in masonry,

Ken,
as there has usually been a soloist at the installations that I
ahve been at, I am under the impression that there is music out there for
installations. got too http://www.glmasons-mass.org/Grand_Lodge/ and look
for the librarian (cynthia) she will quite likely be able to recomend
something nice. . best of luck

Gopher King Arisia '99 are you a turtle?
Is English required? If not, there are several Mozart masonic anthems
that could be done as solos with keyboard. Haydn was also supposed to be
a mason.
In addition, there is Pleyel's hymn which has been routinely used for
circumambulation here in Arizona, but I don't know if it has words. The
melody is readily recognized by masons here, however.
Sibelius wrote some masonic anthems (not particularly good pieces), but
they may be difficult to find.
I'm the new musician for my lodge, and I'm a flutist! So, what I'm
looking at is simple, melodic works. I'll be using the Mozart anthems a
cappella, and other flute pieces that stand alone- including my own
arrangement of Sousa's Stars & Stripes Forever (another composer who was
a mason).
Hope that helps.

Ken,
If youre performing in Cheshire UK don't sing God Save the Queen
whatever you do, it's quite frowned upon there.

Dear Brother,
I have attended lodge where a recording was played of a male soloist
signing during the preambulation. Very bad reporduction, but that is
besides the point.
Try: http://www.freemason.org/scrl/ they should be able to help.
Be well,
