Subject: Shame on the British

Who do you stand with, the oppressed or the oppressor?

http://jtem.tumblr.com/post/27133287117

The young man is Irish.  He lives in Ireland.  That tri-colored
cloth over his left shoulder is the flag of the Irish
Republic.  Problem is, the part of Ireland that this photo was
taken in is occupied by the British.

The British partitioned Ireland at gun point, way back in
1921.  From then on to be Irish living in Ireland was something
of a crime -- an invitation to be repressed and brutalized by
the British.

This never ended.  Even today, even right now an Irish
person living in his ancestral Ireland is more likely to be
victimized by the police than protected.

Britain is the only western European nation to occupy a
neighbor.  Britain is the only so-called "Civilized" nation to
operate death squads in protection of it's occupation.

Britain lashes out against the Israeli occupation of the
West Bank, yet not only have the British been occupying
Ireland for far longer, but unlike the Israelis the British
always were (and still are) the aggressors.

End this.  There's no excuses.  Morons cry about Bush
in Iraq or Obama using drones in Yemen,  meanwhile
the British have divided and brutally occupied Ireland
for more than 130 and nobody notices....

Irish Protestants in the North overwhelmingly favor continued union with Britain. Why should their opinions count less than those of the Catholic minority?

Er.  Weren't "Scots" (as opposed to the Picts) the
invaders from Ireland in the first milleneum?

It's pretty standard knowledge, and indeed the classical Latin name
for "Irish" was "Scoti".  To be precise, they were one of the people
that, in early Christian times, were the population what is now modern
Scotland.  J. D. Mackie, _A History of Scotland_ (Penguin Books, 1978)
lists them as the Picts, Scots, Britons, and Angles.  The Norse and
Normans came later.  The Scots ended up in a lot of Scotland, and when
their king Kenneth MacAlpin got the Pictish throne in 843, they got
the ascendency.
