OK, so I'm probably the last to know

Members of this parish who are equally at home on either side of the
Rio Grande may be surprised at my unfamiliarity with a corporate
sponsor of not one, but two futbol teams whose games were televised in
the United States yesterday.

Sunday afternoon after the "Million Dollar Listing" preview on Bravo,
I flipped through the channels until I found a Mexican soccer game on
Univision. After watching a few player close-ups, I noticed that the
team in the yellow uniforms had an unusual word across the front of
their shirts: "BIMBO."

Then, during last night's "friendly" between Barcelona and Chivas
Guadalajara on Fox Soccer Channel, I noticed that the front of Chivas
blue-red-and-white uniforms prominently displayed "BIMBO."

"I gotta check out this Mexican Bimbo," I said (silently to myself,
fortunately). Apparently Bimbo is Latin America's version of Sara Lee
*and* Wonder Bread combined.

They're responsible for bringing pre-sliced bread to Spain and they're
entering the China market [cue Simon Bar Sinister] in hopes of taking
over bread aisles throughout the world BWAHAHAHAHA!

In the United States, you've been a Bimbo's customer if you've bought
[OBmotss, or more accurately, OBoffice] Entenmann's cakes. Bimbo's
also markets the Mrs. Baird's label in the Southwest.

Hell, after seeing the Chivas players on the field, I'd drop my loaf
of Sara Lee in an instant if there was a Bimbo on the bread rack.

You can buy BIMBO cakes all over the place here. And the name is on the
delivery trucks.

There's a kind of sandwich-cookie for sale in Puerto Rico (where
we have a coral monitoring station) that is labeled "Bimbo Duplex."
A cow-orker brought some back for the masses when he went on an
early scouting trip to the area. Much Merriment Ensued (tm).

There was a renaissance painting I wanted to look at for research,
something like

I'm pretty sure the library had labeled in "Bimbo", but I never found
it.
