(CBS) A man weighing around 900 pounds died after he had to be cut out
his chair in home, reports CBS affiliate WSPA-TV from Greenwood, S.C.

Authorities say he was stuck to a chair for nine months.

Daniel Webb, 33, died after being taken from his home on County Farm Road
Wednesday. Webb had been in a medical chair for nine months, covered in
sores and human waste.

Authorities say Webb died from cardiac arrest.

Webb hadnt left his house, or even walked for almost nine months. His
wife Ada Webb says he hurt his knee and could no longer walk. He sat in a
Lazy-boy for the rest of his life. "If he would have had the proper care
we tried to get for him back in March this would have never happened," his
wife said during an interview Thursday afternoon.

Ada Webb says she and her husband tried to get disability and insurance
but could not and she says she didnt know where else to turn. "I only
hope something good comes out of this because it was so unnecessary," Webb
said. "They say he went into cardiac arrest but I say he died of a broken
heart."

Emergency Medical Services Personnel says morbid obesity has become a real
issue, and now they carry special tools onboard.

They had to use those tools for Daniel Webb.

Daniel Webb helped found the True Christian Fellowship in Westminster and
was still an associate pastor.

This guy was obviously on a self destructive binge. Maybe the only way to
control it would have been to cut off his food supply, but the rhetoric
from the "fat acceptance" crowd doesn't help people like this. Neither do
those who claim that people who can't afford fresh fruits and vegetables
are doomed to obesity; this is nonsense. Look at 100 year old pictures of
the crowds at baseball games; most of these people didn't eat healthy
diets, but they ate less of everything. Same goes for people who live in
countries where food costs more. The first thing authorities should do
when people get too fat to manage their lives (or let their kids become
obese) is take their children away and require them to get sterilized.
This is like a disease that should not be allowed to be passed on from one
generation to the next.

Heres something the wife could have done....stop feeding him. I would have
told him to get his lazy ass up and get it himself if he was hungry. I
also like the part where he is part of a church. It must be a great place
to be Sunday but no other day...fellowship...LOL I see they really helped
their fellow man.

People like this are disgusting excuses of humanity. Lethargy and gluttony
aside, these fat, worthless, non-contributing members of society neither
deserve our pity, nor do they deserve our sympathy. When one of these
worthless pieces of garbage gets to this point, the classic defenses
usually pop up out of nowhere: it's not his/her fault they're big, they
had a bad childhood, it's the fast-food companies' faults collectively,
etc.

The tough part to swallow, even before the Health Care Reform measures in
Congress right now, is that if you DID end up as obese and worthless as
this "person", you could be declared DISABLED, and that would make that
person eligible for Welfare, Disability, Medicaid, etc. So...in
essence...you treat your body like a trash disposal, and don't worry, the
American taxpayer will take care of you.

To hell with that!

Whether it's drug, alcohol, having too many kids, obesity, etc...if YOU
CREATE THE CONDITIONS THAT NOW CAUSE YOU MISERY, YOU SHOULD BE ELIGIBLE
FOR NOTHING. Zero. No help. No aid. YOUR FAULT.

As Americans get fatter and fatter, this will happen again. And Diabetes
will continue to affect more and more.

We're the true victims, not these circus freaks that have no self-respect.

You cannot get to 900 pounds by being lazy and overeating.

This clearly involved genetics.

It is a great tragedy for his family that because so many people judge
that there is something mentally, instead of physically, wrong with anyone
who is obese, not only don't people like this get the help they need, but
they are kicked in the teeth with insults, as is all too clear from
reading many of these posts.

Died of a broken heart? Obviously, yes. A heart broken by 900 pounds of
fat. This guy was a dead man long ago.

if they gave him an enema he would probabli fit in a shoe box! Sorry,
lousy comment I know. But to glamorize or even write about such freaks
compounds the problem. And the freaks I am talking about are those who
think that there is some value in being overweight. One third of the US is
obese. And we talk about 49,000,000 Americans who are food INSECURE? Bah
what hypocrisy.

Earthpal, thank goodness you are perfect and will live a long healthy life
without any medical disorders. I do wish we could all be so healthy and
perfect. The sad fact is some people have something wrong with them
physical or mental and without treatment for an underlying condition you
can't reduce the symptoms. Obesity is often a symptom of poverty as much
as from metabolism or mental health. Buying fresh vegetables, fruits, lean
healthy cuts of meats, whole grains is of course the best way to eat, but
it's also the most costly and limited to those with a good income. People
tend to buy canned veggies, fruits, fatty meats, white bread and lots of
pasta and then they eat more and more of it to get the basic nutrients and
that does lead to obesity. I agree most junk foods should be banned on
food stamps, but if you narrow it down to just the safe whole organic
foods...families will not be able to afford to feed themselves on food
stamps. Evidently you have also been lucky enough to get that awesome
education and magically managed to find the perfect job to afford to be so
healthy and perfect and judge everyone else who is not as perfect.

As the mother of severely disabled twin daughters, I am saddened by the
amount of people missing the point. Disabled persons in the US have a
horrible time getting services, equipment, medical care and in-home care.
My family has been on a waiting list for over a year for aid; those lists
are currently frozen. I would also like to add that my husband & I are
under extreme stress & exhaustion trying to care for 2 35 lb little girls-
I can't imagine those who have to care for adults on their own 24/7. By
the way, my daughters have a rare life-threatening metabolic disorder
called mitochondrial encephalomyopathy. Neither mito nor twins run in our
families-so try to keep in mind not all disabled persons are disabled due
to "their own fault". Society should stop trying to ignore or explain or
disabilities away & help those in need.

Reply to this comment by NorthernIllinois November 23, 2009 11:01 AM EST
To calgongirl: When you discovered your twins were disabled, probably
through an ultra sound prior to birth, you had choices. You made your
choice, now stop complaining. It's not the taxpayers responsibility to
care for your children when you knew they would need constant care. I am
pro choice and you chose to have children that you knew would be
suffering.

by danny1728 November 22, 2009 9:06 PM EST
People who let themselves get into this type of situation, have mostly
done so slowly, and were not industrious enough to do anything about it
early on. I have known some. Not much the law can do, until they have
children. It would appear the child is also overweight, and that alone is
enough for the local government to step in and insure its health. I was a
school board member, and worked locally with a woman whose family was
simply way too fat. PC be damned. She had a 8 year old son, who was
approaching 150 plus pounds, and couldn't walk, let alone run, across the
room at P. I was asked to talk to the mother, because the principal had
tried, and the school councilor had tried, and both were unsuccessful in
having the parents come to the school and talk about his excess weight.
You see - they both weighed over 400 pounds themselves - and simply would
not admit to the fact that he was fat. Their 6 year old daughter was also
well on the way to looking like a basketball. Oh- and yeah - the mother
would bring in a whole chicken, dozen rolls, butter, jam, and a liter of
Coke, for her lunch. I wont mention the snack.

You sure the 20,000 calorie a day diet didn't have anything to do with

Posting from one of these is almost as good as getting courage from a
bottle.

Notice how this reprobate likes to display little regard for the pain
of the subject and his family.

>This guy was obviously on a self destructive binge.

Duh-ya think? Why do you suppose that is? Could it be that he and his
family asked for help when he was much skinnier and idiots like you
ignored him?

> Maybe the only way to
>control it would have been to cut off his food supply, but the rhetoric

That isn't true , idiot. His food supply was kept up by his family but
even though they functioned as enablers, they don't deserve your
derision. They have paid their price-they lost the person they loved.
Again it didn't have to happen if he had gotten the help they asked
for in the first place.

> Neither do those who claim that people who can't afford fresh fruits and vegetables
>are doomed to obesity; this is nonsense.

Now that is true. However do you notice that junk food is so much
cheaper than so called "healthy" choices? The so called
health-righteous are being gouged and it is OK with them.

? Look at 100 year old pictures of

>the crowds at baseball games; most of these people didn't eat healthy

It was harder to procure food without good food distribution.

I see. No wonder you post anonymously. I would not want my family to
know I was a closet Nazi.

How about stupidity and why isn't your mother sterilized? May like
you, they sterilized the wrong end of the body?

>People like this are disgusting excuses of humanity.

They are a lot lower on the disgusting level that you are. Some people
are only here to annoy others. However remember that your power to
annoy is controlled by other zero-IQ's that want to hear you.

Remember what goes around comes around. When you are in the nursing
home, not able to move or talk and you need your diaper changed,
remember the people you dismissed as subhuman and how they deserve no
pity or anything else but derision. YOu think you rate any when you do
nothing but take up space and stink?

patients deserves any sympathy or assistance to help them?

Who made you judge and jury and why don't you reveal your identity?

stupidity were painful you would be writing in agony about now.

There is a lot of value in the INDIVIDUAL who is overweight. Fat is
not good or bad-it is inactive in and of itself.

It may even be higher and the rest of the country is obsessing over it

No, they are addicted to food and use it to cushion themselves against

Idiots are mentally deficient. Their perfection is an illusion.

That is true. Ridicule is counterproductive and increases the problem.
The idiots who do it make themselves feel better as in "Better you
than me."

More poor people are fat. Checked the cost of gym membership lately?

No they eat it because it tastes good and it is what they grew up
with. Yes, you eat too much you will get fat. There are some genetic
exceptions-just like there are some people who cannot gain weight.

Junk food can defined as potato chips bust also pre-cooked food such
as a roasted chicken is not allowed either.

That is because idiots like some of the posters in
soc-support.fat-acceptance think their lives and humanity trumps your
daughters and people who happen to be fat. They think they have some
sort of moral superiority when reality they are morally bankrupt
cretins with nothing to contribute to society at large. They actually
blame their own shortcomings on these groups so I am not surprised at
their behavior.

It is all in the approach. You come onto her like a storm trooper and
she is going to rebel. Yes the family has a problem but you control
how you handle it. Don't blow it by being an idiot.
