Vegas Police Search Tyson's Home After Rape Claim
By Cathy Scott

LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - Detectives have searched the million dollar-plus
Las Vegas estate of boxer Mike Tyson, taking away possible evidence,
after a woman accused the former world heavyweight champion of rape,
police said on Thursday.

Tyson, who has not been charged in connection with the allegations,
was cooperative during the search, which was conducted on Wednesday at
his 11,000-square foot mansion in the desert resort city, Las Vegas
Police Capt. Dennis Cobb said.

Cobb said police detectives, accompanied by Special Weapons and
Tactics officers in riot gear, served a search warrant at Tyson's
mansion that was obtained after the woman accused Tyson of raping her
last week. Details of the allegation were not available.

``We obviously don't consider Mr. Tyson a threat to the community,
otherwise we would have done something immediately,'' Cobb said. ``He
was cooperative and we think we can arrive at a fairly clear picture
of what occurred.''

Tyson's Las Vegas attorney, James Jimmerson, said the accusations were
false he did not expect the 35-year-old boxer to face charges.

Tyson, who was convicted of rape in 1992 and spent 3 years in an
Indiana prison, was accused of rape earlier this year by a 50-year-old
California woman. Prosecutors declined to file charges in that case,
saying they lacked evidence.

Cobb said detectives confiscated belongings from Tyson's home, but
declined to describe them. ``There were items that we believe might
have evidentiary value that were taken from his home,'' he said.

Cobb said detectives were expected to spend several weeks
investigating before deciding whether to submit the case to the Las
Vegas District Attorney for prosecution.

Cobb said Tyson was home during most of the search of his $1.36
million estate, which is surrounded by 12-foot walls in a pricey
section of town near crooner Wayne Newton's expansive desert ranch and
the home of rap mogul Marion ``Suge'' Knight.

Tyson, currently ranked as the world's number one contender for the
world heavyweight championship, is scheduled to box Danish fighter
Brian Nielsen on Oct. 13 in Denmark and has predicted that a victory
will mark the first step toward reclaiming his heavyweight title.

{Parg} Stupid men usually are "easy targets" for smart folks, whether they are
male or female. As to going into a hotel room, there's no law against that for
men or women dear.
