That's when both colonization and technology came together, on the

Wrong. Most whites had help from only a relatively few Mediterranean
whites who actually did the "growing" that you speak of. And, even
with that, the rest remained stuck far longer than necessary.
Had Mediterranean - or, perhaps: Asian - rule extended to Africa, then
blacks would've advanced just as quickly as Pagan Europe. As it was,
they got second hand colonization from the slow-witted ex-conquered
