A regular meeting of the Board of Library Trustees was held on
Monday, April 13, 2009 at
6:30 PM at the
Central Square Branch Library.
The following members of the Board of Library Trustees were present:
. Janet Axelrod
. William Barry
. Andre Mayer
. Patricia Payne
. Nancy Woods
Also present:
. Susan Flannery, Director of Libraries
. Bertha A. Chandler, Assistant Director for Human Resources
. Kelly Linehan, Administrative Assistant
Minutes from the March 2009 meeting were approved.
Ms. Flannery informed the Board that she had not received any Patriot
Act requests since the March meeting.
Correspondence was acknowledged.
Cindy Roach, Regional Administrator for the Southeastern Massachusetts
Library System wrote to announce that Kelly Linehan has been chosen to
attend Library Leadership Massachusetts 2009 in July.
Ben Ludin of Neville Place sent a thank you letter.
Main Library:
. Moving bids are due Thursday 4/16/09 at 11am. Move is expected to
being the second week of May.
. Liam Gillick art piece coming in soon.
. Ms. Flannery met with Michael Ananis, the executive director of
Rindge School of Technical Arts about the cafe. They are interested
and are exploring various options.
. The Trustees are suggesting inviting the CRLS principal to a meeting
to discuss ways the library and CRLS can work together.
Budget:
. Susan Flannery, Bertha A. Chandler and Karen Brown met with union
and most staff to discuss service reductions. Generally a positive
response. Ms. Chandler, Ms. Brown, and Ms. Flannery will be going to
each of the branches to follow up.
. Website is in process of being redesigned by i-site. The goal is to
complete the redesign by the time we open the new Main Library.
New Business:
. Jim Roosevelt had asked at a previous meeting about why the
allotment in budget for health insurance was so high. Ms. Flannery
responded that the amount budgeted for a vacant position is the most
expensive option available to employees. City budget shows full cost
of heal\
th insurance, not just the city's contribution.
. The tentative date for the next meeting is May 18, 2009. It is
possible that the move will be underway at that time.
