Why couldn't the Soviets shut down the Stukas?
T'other day I read an account of a Eastern Front battle in late 1943. At several points during this battle, Stukas intervened, destroying Soviet tanks, bombing and strafing infantry, and significantly delaying the Soviet victory. The extent of the Stuka activities surprised me. The Soviets by this time had lots of capable... more »

What did you regret not asking a departed ww2 veteran?
I think most ww2 vets are departed now, or else not in a frame of mind to communicate clearly with younger enthusiasts. Many of us met these folks when they were still spry and talkative, but we were too dumb or ignorant to ask the right war questions. I thought we might formulate the questions... more »

Roberto Bolaño: The Third Reich
The Chilean/Mexican author Roberto Bola o, published an interesting novel in 1989 entitled _The Third Reich_. It's now available in English. It's not about the war or even about the Third Reich. Hitler's alleged "dairies"--Update
In light of some of the ongoing arguments in this forum about the relative historical limportance of new information over old, here is evidence that sometimes fake history becomes enshrined with the real thing. A few weeks ago I wrote in another thread about a 1980s hoax with regard to the... more »
