The Chilean/Mexican author Roberto Bola�o, published an interesting
novel in 1989 entitled _The Third Reich_. It's now available in English.
It's not about the war or even about the Third Reich. It's about a
young German man on holiday in Spain with his girlfriend. He is the
German champion at the Avalon Hill board game called "The Third Reich".
In the course of the novel the man becomes obsessed with playing the
German side of the game against a mysterious fellow who ekes out a
living renting pedal boats on the beach.
Bola�o shows a great deal of interest in all this and there are reams of
material in the novel about German strategy in the war, with alternate
scenarios.
It's an unusual novel with some interesting and disturbing psychological
themes, but some of the readers of this list might find it very interesting.
