Good teeth though... far better than mine, groan!

I bought a new mouth several years ago, with
implants, and crowns all around. Very expensive.
I wonder how Richard kept his up?

Regular brushing I presume? And a decent diet no doubt helped, unlike mine. The price of dentistry has gone up astronomically since Richard passed on, though I'll bet the mean sod never even saw one! Nor needed one.... hell, he was only 32!

Medieval historians have neglected the subject of
primitive dentistry, and my periodontist
indicated that regular cleaning means everything.
Evidently the principle is to allow the saliva to
be in intimate contact with the gum & tooth
surfaces (it contains "lysozyme" - a natural bug
killer.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysozyme

All Richard had to do was have some underling
clean his teeth with wooden picks & powdered
chalk.

I lost many teeth when a teen creature and more
later on. My Prothsodontist wanted to insert a
plate into the lower jaw, but the option was
available to insert Ti implants and now I have six
in various places and every tooth possible. I
never cease to be grateful. The whole thing cost
a fortune but we managed to drag the whole thing
out for six years.

I was offered similar treatment, but given options:

Full set of perfect 'Californian' gnashers - £c.40,000
Part set of British choppers - £25,000
Traditional British 'removable/optional' upper set - >£ 1000

Being patriotic (ahem) I chose the latter of course. Not the best choice, they make me feel sick and need supergluing in to provide any level of 'confidence' whatsoever. Eating with them is a nauseating impossibility...

So I tend to go for the medieval approach, i.e., dispense with upper front teeth, telll fibs about terrible fights and tragic accidents, and sport a moustache (to cover the 'terrible scars'...

Since I am fortunate not to smile very much (no toothy grin even were it possible), I seem to have got away with this, and nobody notices. When they are inevitably going to discover the grim truth (i.e. new chicks etc.) my elaborate and well polished lies and excusses seem to have impressed them, and gained favourable responses... "You poor thing!".... "It doesn't matter darling!"... and, best of all, "I don't care sweetie!"...

Whether genuine sympathy, relief they won't get bitten, or hopes that my perfectly conditioned tongue will make up for any shortfalls in dentition, I am unsure. Luckily I have not had the response so far (which I hypocritically dread).... "oh good, I'll take out mine too!"

Surprised Chaucer didn't cover this?

Having ancestors with false teeth and burdened
with the sight of dentures sitting in cleaning
solutions every night I was determined to avoid
that fate. My procedure cost the same as a good
SUV but I kept throwing money at them until told
to stop. For two years I chomped food like a
rabbit and even had orthodontic work done. Of
course as one ages the face falls and obscures the
front teeth and now they want to cap my front
teeth!

So, you, being a cule dude, admit to having false gnashers? (I'll just
say, you are not alone. I 'm not wearing the same chops I had when I
first started posting on this newsgroup. A clue - my dear Papa had all
his chops pulled out when he was 25 years old. At least my rotten
collection lasted until I was about 55.)

Every time this subject comes up, I realize how lucky I am to still have at
least parts of all my teeth at 78. My parent didn't and my son doesn't. My
daughter has had a lot of work done and may have all hers. I have lots of
filling s---some multiple incarnations--and some caps, but no holes nor
replacements. Obsessive brushing and flossing helps. 8-)

All part of being honest and medieval my dear lady! I have nothing to hide, ahem... and little to smile about. Even then it doesn't show, I am lucky in having that sort of face I suppose?

My first girlfriend had a false tooth at the front, which I never realised - until she took it out one day while we were tripping on LSD! It was quite a shock.... but never put me off. Ho hum.... happy days!

A current reliance on Viagra is of far more concern... what did they do in medieval times I wonder?

Now, if all that doesn't raise the ghost of DSH, I don't know what will? Funny thing is, I don't feel he is dead - only incapacites?

It would be sheer torture if he could read and not respond....
Would I wish that on anyone, no, not even him. Just for my own fun if nothing more!
