Absurd ideas of pronunciation
It is not questionable that modern English writing does not give the least clue as to its pronunciation by its fully literate readers today. In fact you might have had to read that sentence more than once to see exactly what I meant by it, that is, where the trailing "today" fits into it. Many people have declared they cannot understand my writing style... more »

Those crazy Egyptians and their inscriptions
Which is not much compared to their kings who decide that exterminating illiterate goatherds and dirt farmers was worth a line in a stone inscription. It dumbs down the idea of what Egypt was like at the time. It makes us ask why they needed writing when their great challenges included simpletons.... more »

A Liberal's Dilemma
The (liberal) press is already raring to go about guns on the latest Fort Hood incident. The suspect used two guns, "one of them a semiautomatic," they report. Not a dreaded semiautomatic, please. To most people who don't know what semiautomatic means, it will sound intolerably dangerous, almost there with "automatic" and we can't have... more »

(*) The Africans of the Republic of Rome ~ 500 BC
Most cities of ancient Europe including those of Italy, such as Sicily and Olbia, were founded by the descendents of the black son of Ham who were the Canaanite traders known as the Phoenicians. The love of black Zeus (2) for the Phoenician princess Europa is the source of the continental name Europe. In later times, Italic tribes entered what is... more »

Some Conclusive Evidence for Ancient Israel
Below is a translation of the Assyrian cuneiform text recording the Battle of Karkar (853 B.C.); an easier summary can be found in [link] It undoubtedly mentions Israel and its king Ahab, who took part in the battle against the King of Assyria. King Ahab was king of Israel, not Judah, and this non-biblical source... more »

A Farewell to Alms, An economic history of the world
by Gregory Clark I just got ahold of it. It touches on a theme that has come up a couple times here over the years. A quick scan suggests it is basically sound and not a political invective. Introduction: The Sixteen-Page Economic History of the World He may therefore be justly numbered among the benefactors of mankind, who... more »
