Talk about lowering the bar... Sheesh!

Here's an example of some pretty lame "scholarship"
in defense of a book of spells.

Here's the claim:

: Without divine-inspiration, there could be no
: way for Muhammad to know about people such
: as Adam, Musa (Moses), Yusuf (Joseph), and
: Isa (Jesus). And yet, in the middle of the
: polytheistic idol-worshiping Arab world, came a
: prophet who had knowledge of earlier prophets
: and was the final one in that chain.

Now if you're having trouble understanding what
he's saying (or just don't want to understand it),
let me explain:

They are claiming that that the knowledge of
Judaism & Christianity -- as recorded in the
Koran -- is "Proof" of divine inspiration.

Why is this so terrible?

Well, for starters Islam is far younger than both,
so both existed inside Arabia prior to (and even
along side) Islam. So there was never any isolation.
There was never a time when Mohamed or any
of his contemporaries weren't exposed to such
beliefs. It would have taken a greater "Miracle"
for Mohamed to not have any knowledge of
"Abrahamic beliefs."

It gets worse...

This person who posted this -- the "blogger" --
acknowledges everything. He even says, yeah,
Mohamed would have had first-hand knowledge
of "Abrahamic faiths." But he claims that, as
Mohamed was illiterate, there was no way for
Mohamed to know about biblical characters in
such detail. This is rather circular, because
the "Detail" isn't that great, or at least not that
accurate. The basically claim that the more
the stories were embellished the more astoundingly
accurate the tales are, so accurate that they
prove God's hand because that's the only
way they could have arrived at so much
detail... accurate detail.

It gets even worse...

By arguing that Mohamed was illiterate he's
arguing that someone else wrote the tales. So
he's adding a further (non-divine) source for
the Jewish & Christian stories. So...

What we have here is the claim that people
with full access to Jewish & Christian source
materials, recording the teaching of someone
else with full access to Jewish & Christian
teachings couldn't mention Jewish & Christian
stories unless God exists and divinely revealed
them to these "Scholars."

...and if they got anything wrong (left things
out and/or embellished the tales) then that's
further proof of the divine hand, as there is no
other way they could have known what to
forget/add.
