Below is a note about a new publication that concerns the French overseas colonies during the Ancien Régime. As was suggested, this probably also covers Indochina and other French colonies besides the West Indies. McClellan is, of course, well-known to Saint-Domingue researchers for his <Colonialism and Science - Saint-Domingue in the Old Regime>. ISBN 0-8018-4270-0

Just thought I’d pass this on. But I won’t be buying it soon – I found a copy on ABEBooks for $95, plus $35 shipping & handling (from Germany). You might check to see if a university library in your area has a copy, especially a university with a strong French colonial collection (UFL in Gainesville, Tulane in New Orleans, etc.)
