Hello Listers,
I'm trying to find some information on the Peschier family (Grenada,
Dominica and Trinidad). From a Google Book search the following came
up. If anyone has copies of these books and would be willing to check
the pages in question, I would be very grateful. I am particularly
interested in the Peschier - Dabadie connection.
1/ Vere Langford the monumental inscriptions of the British West
Indies Dorchester FG Longman The Friary press 1927, p. 267
Charles PESCHIER born in Grenada and died in Trinidad on July 23, 1850
aged 63 years
2/ Anthony de Verteuil, “The years before “ Trinidad inprint Caribbean
Ltd Publishers 1981, 312p:
Page 86 deals with the Peschier family, French Huguenots, that left
Dominica for Trinidad before 1800
3/ Olga MAVROGORDATO “Voices in the streets» Port of Spain In print
publication 1979, 190p.
Pages 62-63 states that the heirs of Mrs PESCHIER sold their estate,
Sainte Anne, called “paradise estate “ in 1817 keeping a few acres
where theirs ancestors were buried
4/ Anthony de Verteuil CSSp. Sir Louis de Verteuil: His life and
times. 1800-1900:
Pages 180 and 181 give some genealogical notes about the links to the
Gannes, d’Abadie, le Cadre, … Families
Any help would be much appreciated.

Father deVerteuil was my wonderful History master at CIC: unfortunately
I don't have his books,
but you could try contacting him directly or perhaps Bridget Brereton at
UWI, St. Augustine.
But I do have the Oliver! The Correct page reference is pages 220-222.

In the Savannah. north of the Queen's Park Hotel, is a small private
burial ground enclosed by a wall. It probably belonged to the Peschier

that this was yours; I could check on the forename on my next visit to
the UK National Archives (TNA CO 714/157). In the 1820s J Peschier (the
same or another) appears to have been the superintendent of the
Carapichaima ward, with a seven-year appointment ending on 31 December
1828 for supervising Sir Alexander Cochrane's ex-apprentices at that
place (TNA CO 295/89); he was still chasing the fees due to him in 1830,
apparently having come to London to do so, residing at no 9 Norfolk St,
Strand, and the correspondence went on for at least a further year, well
into 1831 (TNA CO 295/87, 89).

I came across your post re PESCHIER. family trinidad.
My paternal great grandmother was MATILDA PESCHIER who lived in Port of Spain in the 1840s.
She was married to my great grandfather JOSEPH NUMA RAT, circumflex over the A. They were a Protestant French family as were the Peschier's I believe.
They had at least two children a son also named JOSEPH NUMA RAT born 1848 and AUGUSTA ALTIMA RAT born 1853. There may have been another daughter
MARY ELIZABETH RAT.
JOSEPH NUMA RAT junior grew up in Trinidad and went to medical school in the UK eventually becoming a surgeon and had a distinguished career in public service mainly in the Caribbean.
I have not been able to track down much about the PESCHIER'S apart from the early history in Trinidad and the Savannah connection etc.
I did note in the listing of the family graveyard that at least two of the Peschier's are described as Doctors, CHARLES LEON PESCHIER MD and another DR PESCHIER and His wife M.E. PESCHIER parents of CAROLINE ELIZABETH PESCHIER.
Since the medical profession tends to run in families I wonder if my grandfather inherited his drive and ambition from the Peschier side of his family.
Did you ever have any luck tracing any other members of the family? There is also a reference to a Mr Peschier surgeon of the Colonial Hospital June 1846 in the Colonial Gazette.

The Peschier family is a bit of a sideline for me, so I wouldn't say I am very knowledgeable. My particular interest was in Marie Henri Peschier and Jean Peschier both from Geneva and sons of Pierre Peschier and Anne-Marguerite Blisson
Marie Henri married a Celeste Rose de Beltgens in Grenada. They moved to Trinidad c. 1780.
The other brother, Jean, married Elizabeth Rose de Beltgens, sister of Celeste also in Grenada. One of their sons married his first cousin, Marie Celestine Dolores Peschier, daughter of Marie Henri and Celeste Rose and etc.
I do have a document sent to me by someone else, but it does not contain your Mathilda or Joseph RAT.

Never heard of them being Huguenots. The Boissiere family wee but it was a condition of the Spanish Cedula that immigrnats be Catholic.
