Since my recent subscription to this "Mail" it is the first encounter with the name Moll.  Perhaps Peter Moll might be of some help.  In my family tree I have a Mary Weddington Moll & Sarah Elizabeth Moll who are possibly sisters; Mary's parents have been documented: Anthony Moll & Sarah Crane.  Mary Weddington Moll married James Ince, one of their children was named Henry Jemmott Ince b. 1835.  Sarah Elizabeth Moll married Robert Stewart Jemott.  All of these families were from Barbados.  Relatives of the James Ince family now reside in England.   Have you any info (Peter) that can be added?

Thanks,
David (Bladen)

Hello David: I think I can help a little with this. I do believe that
Mary & Sarah Elizabeth were indeed sisters.
If you like I can send you (off list) my Moll/Crane/Ince /Jemmott file,
too lengthy to post here; it may give you some more clues. No evidence
yet though of the Barbados Moll origins.

David

Thanks for your interesting enquiry, but my Molls immigrated from Germany
(where the name is more common) to England in the late 1800s.
I',m delighted that Ernest is better able to help you

Best wishes

Peter

Thanks for your prompt response Peter, as an aside, I recently found out that Moll seems to be of German origin...all of my wife's family were from Germany, came to the US in the mid 30's.

I would be happy for the info that you might have Ernest.

Thanks,
David

Hello David: I dont know if this will be of any help to you, but it is
all I have on MOLL in Barbados. No idea where they come from, but it
strikes me that none of the descendants seem to have particularly
Germanic names: if anything I would surmise a Dutch (Huguenot?) origin.
There were many Huguenot families in Barbados, some of whom anglicised
their names (the de Keysers became the Emperors!)

You probably know that one of the best of the early map-makers was a
Peter Moll, who lived in London, but I do think was a Dutchman. I have
several of his original antique West Indies maps, and I consider his
Barbados map to be one of the finest ever done of that island. His
Antigua map is also very good. I often wondered whether Anthony might
have been a relation.

Regards
Ernest
