University of California - Berkeley - published 1995 in the
Journal of Commonwealth and Postcolonial Studies.
Notes: James GRAINGER - "Scottish physician and minor poet" -
emigrated to St. Christopher's (St. Kitts) in 1759.
"Upon returning to England in 1764 Grainger published "The Sugar-Cane",
a four-book poem on sugar cane cultivation.
"In rather turgid stanzas he provides advice on soil preparation, planting,
weather conditions, field vermin, milling and boiling procedures, sugar
quality, and most importantly, advice on the purchase and governance of
African slave labor."
