I have come across some interesting middle names with my research in
England, where BLENKINSOP for example was the mother's maiden name of Thomas
Blenkinsop URWIN, and the US. where, again, middle names such as UNDERHILL
and RYERSON were the mother's maiden name, or at least a family connection.
Is this a similar situation in the Caribbean?? The middle names of Stanley
Beresford LYNCH and Miriam Arnester McLEAN appear to be a form of surname
rather than a christian name. One of their children had Eustace as a middle
name, another had McDonald as a middle name.
Any opinions very welcome!

My greatgrandmother's maiden name Ritchie, was passed down as a middle name
in our family for both female and male members. My brother bears the name as
a middle name but unfortunately it wasn't gtiven to me.

This is a great start to a wonderful and well needed service.
Hopefully we will continue to see more and more records added for all
our Islands.
I have been using the site since I discovered it over a month ago.
Anyone researching ancestors in the Parish of Trelawny in Jamaica, are
in luck as it is the first ?block of records? to be put on line for
Jamaica. The following records are up: The Trelawny Parish Civil
Registration and Births, 1878 ? 1930.
Districts of: Albert Town, Bellevue, Bounty Hill, Bunker Hill, Clark?s
Town, Deeside, Duncans, Falmouth, Hampden, Lowe River, Rio Bueno, Salt
Marsh, Sawyer?s Market, Stewart Town, Ulster Spring, Wait-a-bit,
Waldensia.

This fact is true in my family as well as?others here in eastern North
Carolina.? Many times in research it has been helpful in discovering the
mother's maiden name.? We have William Gibbs Spencer, Thomas Spencer Gibbs
as well as William Selby Gibbs.? Also there was a period of time when the
names of the famous entered families i.e. Benjamin Franklin Gibbs, George
Washngton Gibbs, Alonzo Jefferson Gibbs.? The one that tripped everyone up
was R.M.G.M. Gibbs.? It as not figured out until a will was witnessed by a
high court official with the name R.M.G. Moore, then thru various other
official records all the initials became reality for us.? They had to be
creative as we have familes a large as 22 children.

As Always, Geri

I have the middle name Sinclair in at least two generations of my
Grays in St. Croix, one b. 1820, another 1853. If you come across
Sinclair, I'd appreciate any clues.

Folks, I am (slowly) making my way through Westergaard's "The Danish
West Indies" and note in his preface that he mentions these spellings.
They might help for database searches.
Wetergaard says he anglicized many of the names and offered this list:
Christian for Christiern
George for Jorgen
Peter for Peder and Pieter
John for Jan, Johan, Johannes and Jens
Oliver for Oliger
William for Wilem and Wilhelm
Severin for Soren
