Subject: Yorkshire Gazetteer/Place Name Dictionary - "Oberney"

I'm trying to find a town called "Oberney" in Yorkshire.  I think that
it was spelled phonetically.  What would be a good gazetteer for
Yorkshire circa 1830?  Thanks.

I have looked it up in my gazetteer, which is : "The New Yorkshire
Gazetteer and Topographical Dictionary" by Stephen R. Clarke,
published London: printed for Henry Teesdale and Co., 1828 --- but
can't find Oberney in it, although there are several names very
vaguely similar. Sorry I can't be of more help. ---- Pete C.

I too am researching Yorkshire and I was amazed to find that there is
the complete text of a c1825 Gazeteer on line at:

http://cs6400.mcc.ac.uk:80/genuki/big/eng/YKS/yrksdict/

It is divided by riding, so you might have to look in three places.

You can also get there by following the links to Yorkshire from the
English Genealogy page of Genuki.
