My Great Great Great Grandfather was a Harrison and Danish
|
| |
I always thought Harrison was a English name, but my grandfather, Thomas Harrison said his family was Danish! I do not know where in Denmark and can't read the census lists on the Danish websites like: [link]. I believe that my Gr Gr Grandfather was named Martin Harrison born in 1831 in Wayne, Bartholomew County, Indiana and he died after 1880 in Sabula, Jackson County, Iowa. His marriage certificate shows his father as being named Henry Harrison. On the 1850 Federal Census he and his children (including my Gr Gr Grandfather Martin, show up with a last name of Hemdan. Henry's wife's name and Martin's mother is named Mary (Polly) Hemdan. Could there have been a name change? I have sent this info in August 2011 to the researchers at the Elk Horn Danish Archives in Iowa but have not heard back. Wonder if anyone in this group can help me locate where in Denmark my relatives came from. P.S. Henry birth year is estimated from the 1850 Fed Census as 1797.... more »

at the far right. I believe it has to do with the marriage of Johan
Nilsson and Eva Magnidotter. Is the date 10 December 1842 the date of
the bands or the marriage? Where did the marriage take place or where... more »
