There's a few problems with your theory.

1. You're a spammer.
2. My family doesn't have a crest, most don't.
3. I'm really not posting this for the spammer, but for anyone who is new
here and might think that this is legit. For several reasons, it isn't.

In addition, "crest" is probably not what the spammer
really meant, or what uninformed readers might think. The
"crest" is what goes on top of the helmet which is on top of
the shield. Older shields didn't have helmets, hence no
crests. Actually, the crest is supposed to be as distinctive
as the shield - unique, that is - and may have originated in
family badges which may be older than coats of arms themselves.
By the way - I don't have one either. Some Whitakers once
did, but the line died out. That doesn't mean that anyone named
Whitaker can use it. Of course there's no one to stop you - but
why bother?

Dave is right. You will have a family crest if your ancestors are nobility.
If they weren't, the crest design is someone idea of what 'might be'.
