New MINNESOTA research note
Our research note for November discusses places to look when the Minnesota vital record you want can't be found in the county courthouse. It includes info on the WPA project to compile such information in the courthouses, as well as other places to look for transcriptions. You can find it at [link]... more »

Inheritance -- 1756 -- Maryland
Is it legally possible for a man who died in 1756 in Maryland to inherit anything from his father, whose Will was written in 1780 and probated ca 1790 in Maryland? Does it matter that the d 1756 man is not mentioned, nor are his survivors, in that 1780 Will? Thanks. Cheryl singhals <singh...@erols.com>... more »

Boston passenger lists, ca. 1950?
[ I posted this a few days ago in alt.genealogy, which appears to have suffered a suspicious death ] A quick DAGS tells me I can get indexed Boston passenger lists up to 1943 at NARA and Ancestry.com, but I haven't found a source for any later than that. I know I didn't look very hard, but can anyone... more »

Orientation of plat
Would greatly appreciate it if someone could take a look at the plat at [link] and tell me which way compass north is. In the description of the plat, the landowners on the right corner at about 1 to 2 o'clock (John and Dennis Freeman) are said to bound on the NW, Landowner at... more »

Getting Organized
I've signed up for a year with ancestry.com and am wondering about how to set up a system to track what I have searched, copied, perhaps "need to research", contacts, etc. Any ideas? Nancy "NancyR" <nan...@nospam.net>

Deleting an error in unwanted spouse
I am working with an old FTM program. I mistakenly added an additional spouse. Now I do not know how to eliminate this error. I could delete the name of the unwanted spouse and now it prints out as unknown spouse. How do I correct this error? Thanks in advance. Bob ranhew...@webtv.net (Hewitt)

Clarification of legal terminology
Can anyone cite a source from the 1795-1850 era that defines legal nuances, such as the /legal/ difference between "slave" and "slave for life"? I'm finding the two terms used in a single document and in such a fashion that I infer a distinction between them. Cheryl singhals <singh...@erols.com>

Mexican War and Spanish-American War
Anyone know of an on-line reference, similar to the CWSS, where I can check names to verify service in the US-Mexico war of the 1840s or the US-whoever war in the 1890s? Thanks! Cheryl singhals <singh...@erols.com>
