Any Scots royal lines for immigrant John1 Borland of Boston, Massachusetts?
Mr. Kerry's ancestor, John1 Borland of Boston (husband of Sarah Neal), may have remote royal ancestry through his Baillie or Hamilton lines. If you look in the LDS Family History Library catalog, a Borland genealogy immediately comes up, _The Borland Family_ by Constance Borland (New York, 1911). The blurb in the LDS catalog says "John... more »

Richard de Withul
Hi this is my first post to this site, I am searching for WHITTALL's and I have been told that they all started with a RICHARD de WITHUL of Whittle le Woods in Lancashire,a knight of the Norman Conquest. I wondered if SKS can give me information about Richard.

Rebecca Tuite/Carter née Howard
Looking for identity/parentage of a Rebecca Howard "of prince's street, Lancaster", daughter of an unknown Howard and his wife Elizabeth. She married planter Richard Tuite who died in 1748 and later remarried John Carter, m.d. She was probably born in the second half of the 17th century. Her will is dated 1756 and then she was living in Prince's street, London.... more »

Hender of Botreaux Castle ancestry
Hello, I am a long time sideline observer of the fascinating discussions on this board, but this is my first time actually posting. I am interested if anyone knows of any scholarly work done or investigations made into the supposed royal ancestry of the Hender family of Botreaux Castle. The Visitations of Cornwall indicate that William Hender (d.1613) of Botreaux Castle (husband of Agnes Newcourt) was a descendant through unnamed generations of David (Hendower) Hender and his wife Margaret, "daughter and heiress of John de Cornwall." (Some sources I have seen online contend that David's wife was named Isabel de Cornwall.) If this is correct, and John de Cornwall can be identified as the grandson of Walter of Cornwall (1250-1313), himself a grandson of John, King of England, then the Hender family has royal ancestry.... more »

Jane Empson's (Pynchon/Wilson) birth year and relation to Sir Richard Empson
Jane Empson (died 1587), who married John Pynchon and then Thomas Wilson (Secy to Queen Eliz and Ambassador to the Low Countries), has traditionally been cited as a "daughter and co-heir" of Richard Empson, who was executed with Sir Edmund Dudley in August 1510. In searching the archives of this group, I've found no discussion of the discrepancies in terms of her age and date of birth that might cause a conflict with this traditional account. However, most sources give John Pynchon's year of birth as 1534, and I note that his marriage to Jane was his second, and that his children by Jane were born in the 1560s. It appears that Pynchon died 29 Nov 1573 and that she married Wilson 15 July 1576.... more »

slightly OT by virtue of dates: A few Butler questions answered
In most pedigrees shown for the ancestry of Bridget Butler, d. aft. 1774, who married Theobald "Big Toby" Butler of Drom, Knockra & Wilford, d. 1795, Bridget's mother is shown as Anne Skellern, d. 19 Apr 1787, shown only as daughter of "Rev. Hugh Skellern". My first discovery is more about him as well as about his wife, whose name is not mentioned. Rev. Hugh Skellern was Rector of Killeshandra, Kilmore Diocese, co. Queens, in Ireland. He was born 1673 in St. Peter, Chester, and died about 1729 (CCEd, Clergy of the Church of England, on-line). He was admitted to the College of Jesus at Cambridge University on 25 May 1690; matric. 1690; scholar 1691; BA 1693-4; MA 1697, ordained Deacon 19 Dec 1696; ordained Priest at Trinity College 18 Jun 1698. His will was proved 1729 in Dublin. (Cambridge University Alumni, 1261-1900). His wife was Catherine Hume, d. 1705, daughter of Thomas Hume of Humewood, Bawn, Cavan. and Jane Lauder.... more »
