Fw: Giving Anne "Harling" an ancestry
If Anne's parents "were" married by 1420, Anne was say born about 1420, give or take a year. Her first husband died in 1462. She was then 40 give or take a year, she would have been 78 roughly when she died. Pretty "great age" I would say in 1498. provable descents from Byzantine emperors - who earliest?
I have often seen a claim that it is not possible to prove a direct descent from any earlier Byzantine emperor than Konstantinos X Doukas (the 1050s) and Aleksios I Komnenos (reign since 1081 or so) However, I gather that actually, it seems pretty provable that European royalty descends from emperor Romanos I Lekapenos (reigned until 944; more or less contemporary with emperor Leo VI, and father-in-law of emperor Konstantinos VII)... more »

William Wrothe`s Father -in-law, John Mortimer
Dear Matt, Interesting. Sir Robert Mortimer of Attleborough and wife Margery did have a younger son Constantine Mortimer Esq. There was a Constantine Mortimer Esq living in 1443 which to me at least indicates he left a son of the same name and so may have left others. The NEHGR ran an... more »

Bucklegh (Bulkley) Lancashire 1100-1200
There are some interesting tales of the Bucklegh family in Lancashire during the 1190s that suggest that the Buckleghs and Whalleys were related to the Lascy family.  Also the Whalley Coucher - some 1000 pages or more - make many references to these two lines. Geoffrey, grandson of Geoffrey Dean of Whalley married a daughter of Roger Lascy about 1193, and had four sons Roger, Richard, Robert, and Henry... more »

Master
In Scotland heirs to titles were refererred to as "Master of......." like the son and heir of the 5th Earl of Angus, George Douglas, Master of Angus. Was Master also used for the heirs of Lairds? With many thanks, Leo van de Pas Canberra, Australia
