Thanks to John Higgins - José Verheecke - Marc Hoover, in my system I have now 109 lines from Justin Welby to Edward III and I believe there are more.

At the moment in my system there are 15,379 ancestors for him. They are very widely spread in Europe, and a few interesting ancestors are :

Charles II King f England
Sir Hardress Waller, regicide
Lady Janet Stewart, royal bastard and mistress of Henri II, king of France
Ferdinand and Isabella
Galeazzo Maria Sforza, duke of Milan
Mary Boleyn (and Henry VIII ?)
Amadeo VIII of Savoie, anti-pope Felix V
St.Louis IX, king of France
Andronikus II Palaiologos, emperor of Byzantium
William the Conqueror
Charlemagne

It is only the tip of the ice berg. Glad to be able to say that the first
so-many generations of his ancestorlist if pretty complete, except for the
Welby line, but then you can't have everything :-)

It would be interesting if they are descended from the medieval Welbys of Lincolnshire but there seems to be a possibility that they are not Welbys in origin at all but may have changed name a couple of generations back. It has been thought that when Bramhall James Welby returned from South Africa he picked Welby because he thought it sounded English. Is there a way round that impass?

Interesting, John. I do have a Sir George Digby of Coleshill
(1550-1587), descended from Edward III, but don't yet have the 1st
Earl Ferrers.

I don't yet have the Cotes family or the 1st Earl Ferrers in my
database. I'm up to my eyeballs in Blakistons at the moment, so don't
have time yet to enter them. Maybe over this upcoming weekend.

Thanks, Marc. I'm glad they've been of some help.

Wow - that's great, Leo! I'm looking forward to your next website
update so I can start tracing them back and matching them up.

That number is actually mind-boggling. I have a little over 20,900
people - total! - in my database. I don't believe I'll ever catch up,
but, hey, I'll keep trying.

Cheers, -----Brad
