In most pedigrees shown for the ancestry of Bridget Butler, d. aft. 1774, who married Theobald "Big Toby" Butler of Drom, Knockra & Wilford, d. 1795, Bridget's mother is shown as Anne Skellern, d. 19 Apr 1787, shown only as daughter of "Rev. Hugh Skellern". My first discovery is more about him as well as about his wife, whose name is not mentioned. Rev. Hugh Skellern was Rector of Killeshandra, Kilmore Diocese, co. Queens, in Ireland. He was born 1673 in St. Peter, Chester, and died about 1729 (CCEd, Clergy of the Church of England, on-line). He was admitted to the College of Jesus at Cambridge University on 25 May 1690; matric. 1690; scholar 1691; BA 1693-4; MA 1697, ordained Deacon 19 Dec 1696; ordained Priest at Trinity College 18 Jun 1698. His will was proved 1729 in Dublin. (Cambridge University Alumni, 1261-1900). His wife was Catherine Hume, d. 1705, daughter of Thomas Hume of Humewood, Bawn, Cavan. and Jane Lauder.
Anne Skellern was the wife, married 9 Apr 1720, of Edmond Butler of Newtown, co. Queens, c. 1700-6 Feb 1759. The other bit of information is about his wife and her family.
This Edmond was the son of Captain Piers Butler of the Third Lord Galmoye's Regiment of Horse who died Jan 1717. Before 1696 he married Domville Hartpole who died about Nov 1795. All that was known of her parents was that her father was Sir Robert Hartpole of Shrule Castle, co. Laois, and her mother was NN Domville from the well known Domville family. NN Domville was Bridget Domville according to Marriage Entries from the Register of the Parishes of St. Andrew, St. Anne, St. Audouen, and St. Bride, Dublin, 1632-1800, D.A. Chart, ed., 1913.
She married Sir Robert Hartpole of Shrule Castle 2 Feb 1669 at St. Bride, Dublin. He was the son of George Hartpole of Shrule Castle, d. 1632, and Mabel Cosby, d. Feb 1632. This George was the son of Sir Robert Hartpole of Shrule Castle, whose will was probated 28 Oct 1594. His wife was Grany O'Byrne who d. after 1594, as she was her husband's executrix. The information on the son, George, and his wife, is taken from the will.
