The current issue (spring 2012) of "The Genealogist" has an article by
Edward J. Davies titled "Some Connections of the Bird of
Warwickshire". The family in question is that of Mary Bird, wife of
the noted banker Abel Smith of Nottingham. This couple is ancestral
to Queen Elizabeth, but previous works (e.g., Paget's ancestry of
Prince Charles) have only noted Mary's father Thomas Bird. The new
article carries Mary Bird's ancestry a few generations back and notes
that it can be carried even further back - with new royal descents
also. To the extent that it provides detailed new ancestry for Mary
Bird, the article is beyond the medieval timeframe and thus off topic
for this group, but those who are interested may want to track down
the article and follow the leads it offers into the medieval period.
