DNA & Genealogy was introduced at the Family Tree DNA Second International
Conference on Genetic Genealogy held in November 2005 at National Geographic
Headquarters in Washington DC. DNA & Genealogy is a follow-on to Forensic
Genealogy, and gives a more detailed explanation on what you can learn
through Y- and mtDNA
testing. There are also sections on how to find out if your surname already
has a DNA study in progress, how to join a study, and how to form your own.
DNA & Genealogy offers interesting reading material to even the most
seasoned genetic genealogist, through its "DNA in the News " and "Weird DNA"
sidebars on subjects including:
. Cloning
. PaleoDNA
. Chimeras, People with Two DNA profiles in Their Bodies
. Sickle Cell - Good News/Bad News
. DNA Analysis of Oetzi the Tyrolean Ice Man
. IQ XY
. Exobiology DNA
and many others!

About the Authors...
Colleen Fitzpatrick, Ph.D., is the author of two of the best-selling books
in genealogy. Forensic Genealogy has been widely recognized for its
innovative forensic science approach to genealogical research. She has been
featured on NPR's Talk of the Nation radio program (July 2005), and has
written cover articles for Internet Genealogy (June 2006), Family Tree
Magazine (April 2006) and Family Chronicle (October 2005). Colleen writes a
regular column for Ancestry magazine.
Colleen's day job is as a recognized expert in high resolution optical
measurement techniques, with many years' experience working for NASA and the
National Science Foundation. But in Forensic Genealogy and DNA & Genealogy,
Colleen shows that you don't have to be a rocket scientist to get the most
from your genealogical materials.
Andy Yeiser studied physics at MIT and University of California, Berkeley,
but switched to computer engineering early on. He gave up aerospace and
teaching at UCLA to start his own multi-disciplinary company. He sold it and
retired to assignments as an engineering consultant with the United Nations
in Turkey, Iran, Egypt, India, Nigeria, Austria, Guyana, Malaysia,
Yugoslavia, and many other countries. In Kinshasa, Zaire when having
difficulties boarding a flight to Goma, Andy was surprised to get help from
Idi Amin. When Andy thanked him, Mr. Amin replied, "No problem. Just call me
Idi." Andy considers this period of his life as 30 years of paid vacation.
Andy's interest in science was rekindled in Colleen Fitzpatrick's optics lab
and is now focused on DNA & genetics. Andy also consults on engineering and
business management from his base in Huntington Beach, CA.
Andy was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and spent summers with his grandfather in
Nehawka. He traces his family to eight signators of the Magna Carta.
