Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the list and thought I would post my research interests. I am
researching both the PETERS and DERFIELD surnames from the Manchester area.

My grandfather was David (Teddy) PETERS who left England in the 1920s never
to return. He refused to speak of his family in England and certainly never
told anyone he was Jewish. Last year I managed to locate PETERS relatives
still living in Manchester and have managed to piece together much of the
family tree. However, all but one of David's sibling remain a mystery.
David had two brothers, Arthur and Louis (known as Bozzy), and one sister
named Annie. Their father's name was Ellis Isaac PETERS (known as Motty to
family) and and their mother was Sohpia DERFIELD. Both Louis and Arthur
married outside the Jewish faith and were therefore cut-off from the rest
of the family. Annie PETERS married a GOODMAN and I have since found that
family. However, due to the separation of the siblings they have no idea
where or how to contact Louis and Arthur's families.

The quest to find DERFIELDs still living in England has proved to be
difficult. I believe there was only one family in all of England with that
surname. Last year I managed to find a couple of people who I'm related to
and they were able to provide me with a brief background into the family.
Sophia DERFIELD had four siblings (that I know of) one of which was Harry
DERFIELD who had 10 children. All the kids were musical and one, Nathaniel
DERFIELD, even had his own orchestra. I would love to find additional
descendants of the DERFIELD family and learn more about the surname and
additional relatives that I'm missing in my research.

My big quest however is to find my grandfather's siblings and their
families. It would be nice to meet family as well as solve an eighty year
old mystery as to why David PETERS left England never to return.

I would appreciate _any_ information at all!!

Thank you!

Lisa Bako
