germany to wisconsin?

I was just told that one of dessendent came from germany and went right to
Wisconsin. How is that possible?
Do you know where i would start researching this at?

Well, a bunch of my ancestors did that. Obviously, that had to get off a
boat somewhere along the east coast and then travel, but they
essentially didn't stop 'til they got to Wisconsin where they settled
permanently. In a literal sense, it wasn't possible for them to go
straight to Wisconsin from Germany -- too much ocean and land in the
way! But in a practical sense, they set out from Germany with the intent
of going to Wisconsin. There is quite a bit of information available on
the web about this. One place to start would be

information about settlements, ships and family names.

Some of my ancestors also went from Germany to Wisconsin. I have info that
states they were from Mecklenberg-Schwerin and left from the port of
Hamburg for New York. From NY they travelled to Wisconsin and settled in
Menomonie WI. I would also like more info on their travels from NY to WI,
but this part is harder to find. My relations travelled in late 1880 or
