Would someone be able to advise how we can go about this please - what
address do we write to, how much it costs and what documentation is
required from us to prove relationship etc.
What are thoughts on paying a genealogist to help? Any
recommendations? We live in Tasmania, Australia.
Would appreciate any advice as I would like to be able to help my
husband's family learn more of their origins.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Simbach a. Inn is a border town. On the other side of the bridge over
the river Inn is the Austrian town Braunau. Pfarrkirchen had its own
records.
The church books of both parishes - Simbach and Pfarrkirchen (which is
the district center) are kept in the diocesan archive in Passau. You can
request a death certificate from there. Adress, fax number and a list of
all church books kept in this archive you will find on my homepage. (The
one in German only):
http://home.t-online.de/home/R.Riepl/index.htm
Then go to:
Verzeichnis der Kirchenbücher im Diözesanarchiv Passau
Here you will find all the necessary information. They charge about
60,-- DM per hour.

Reinhard

And they differ. Dramatically in some instances.
The Standesaemter are on the town level, and thus the fee schedules are
set by the towns. There is no "At the moment a copy cost within Ger-
many...", because there is no natiowide fee schedule for these things.
You may be lucky and hit a town that asks for 6 DM, you may just as well
hit one, that charges 14 DM (like the one from which I would need to re-
quest birth certificates for myself. But I still have my original, which
was 0.50 DM...).
