Subject: families from Saarland/Lorraine

I am looking for anyone with ancestors or GEDCOM data on several
families from the Saarland/Lorraine region on the border of France and
Germany.  The families are:  Florsch, Forthoffer, Grieser, Kempf(f),
Kihm, Mischo, Motsch, Ochs, Rauch, Sand, Vogelsgang, Wack, Welsch, or
Zahm.  If anyone has any info related to any of these families from this
area, I would be interested in hearing about it.  Thanks.

Subject: Re: families from Saarland/Lorraine
Hello Robert,

I have a great grandfather Charles M. Motsch, who was born in Saarbrucken,Saarland, Germany 18 October 1846. I do not have his parents names. He traveled as a soldier with Maximillian's Army to Mexico to fight. He later arrives in Texas where he is a Corporal of company "A" or "H" with the Frontier Fighters. He later marries Charlotte Dietz November 1876. He has one son from that union about 12 years old as of 4 July 1887. He abandons his family in San Antonio, TX and journeys back to Germany to meet with her father, Mr. August Dietz of Wiesbaden,Germany around 7 July 1887 according to his Naturalized Citizen passport. He marries my Great Grandmother Francis (Fannie) Marie Cherry on 10 April 1892 in Angelina County, Texas. My grandfather Charles Motsch is born 31 May 1893 in Cleveland, Liberty, TX. He also abandons this family and I am not sure if he marries again. I found an intercepted telegram 1 September 1917 with him traveling to Monterrey, Mexico to gamble with his friend Jim Morlen. So he is still alive at the age of 71 and still having a good old time in 1917.

Hope this helps some. I could give you further info. I also would be interested if you have record of him and who his parents were. When I was in Switzerland people said that Motsch was a Swiss German name. I really don't have proof of that but Switzerland is not far from Saarland.
All the best, Rebecca Motsch Wessman
